NHS Pension query

CalmCrab · 26/11/2024 15:31

I have worked in the NHS for 5 years but opted out of the Pension for financial reasons ( I started on Band 2 ) . I am now on Band 4 and have just returned from Maternity Leave so wondering whether to opt back in to the pension. I work in Admin so dont plan on staying in the NHS for much longer than 5 years so not sure if it will actually be worth it?

Always worth paying in to your pension.

Pensions are transferrable so yes pay in and move it to your next employers scheme

Yes don't opt out of an NHS pension EVER!

This! The NHS pension is fantastic as it’s a ‘defined benefit’ scheme rather than a ‘defined contribution’ one.

It’s definitely worth it. Opt back in as soon as you can.

Adding to the chorus - i opted out of my pension nhs for a couple of years- I've been back in the scheme over a decade but those missed years still annoy me and I regret them- opt back in asap even if money is tight! And well done you for climbing up the bands.

It's definitely worth opting in. Even a few years in public sector has given me a decent bit towards my pension

Hi, I have recently found out I am pregnant. I am trying to work out my mat pay. I am top band 4 within the nhs working full time. Does anyone have similar wage that can help? Thank you
