Dusty radiators

I notice that whenever we run our heating, there's a dusty, smoky smell, although I seem to be the only one who has picked up on it. I think the radiators are dusty, so I've bought one of those radiator brushes and I'm going to go around the house and clean them all. Has anyone else had a similar issue?

Yes! I now have radiator shelves on all the rads. Stops the dust from accumulating behind and between the fins on double radiators. A quick waft of the hoover nozzle at the sides of the radiators takes care of any stray cat fur/dust once a month.

Yes, me too!

I bought a brush and it worked for behind the flat radiators, but not the one I've got with slats in the top. Unfortunately it just pushed the dust in further!

I also squirted the brush with Zoflora mixed with water before using it. It helped pick up the dust better and made the rads smell nicer.

I think I read a suggestion to use a hair dryer and blow down the top to blast the dust out of the bottom to be hoovered up. Having been in our house 10 years with 2 fluffy cats I’m way too scared to do this!
