Left and right problem

I have an Etsy shop and one of the things I sell is felt guinea pig Christmas decorations. Often customers send photos of their piggies, and I colour match, and copy distinctive markings. Not portraits, but a resemblance

Anyway a customer has ordered two black guinea pigs - one with the left ear brown. She hasn’t sent a photo, although I’ve asked a few times now, and I’m not sure. I presumed the guinea pigs left, but my husband said it could be my left, and now I’m completely confused

I really need to post this today. She’s in the USA so postage is expensive if I need to resend. I really don’t want to get it wrong, but she’s not replying to messages

I know this sounds mad, I just want a definite answer!!

Of course it's the guinea pigs' left ear brown. I could see this being confusing if she'd sent a photo but with no photo, "left ear brown" means the guinea pig's left ear. Just like if DH says, "TheTruth's left eye is blue and her right is green" or whatever.

@TheTruthICantSay I completely agree with you but my daughters just sent me this

Surely that’s the guinea pigs right??

I don't actually understand the picture!? If that little arrow is supposed to show which is the left, that's the guinea pigs left side.

If you were selling paintings of guinea pigs, I coul dsort of see the issue. But again, a felt decoration could be any direction. I could be holding it up and giving it a little kiss, then the left would be different for me and it. Or I could be holding it up to show a friend, in which case the lefft would be the same for me and it.

SomethingDifferentBloomed · 26/11/2024 11:29

I’d go guinea pig’s left ear brown. And if that’s not right it’s her fault for being ambiguous and not clarifying when asked!

No that's left if you're looking at it, but if you pretend you're the guinea pig it would be your right ear.

Your daughter is wrong. Surely its the pigs left ear!

Chamomileteaplease · 26/11/2024 11:43

The left ear definitively means the guinea pig's left ear.

If they are like humans which they are 😀.

The woman's fault for not being clearer!

TheoTurkey · 26/11/2024 11:44

I think she’s wrong too @LoveMySushi

I think I might send her two each with a different brown ear. It won’t cost more to post and it’ll save the stress!

Or can you make the patch separate, back it with Velcro, and put a piece of velcro on each ear? Not sure if that's less work than making him twice though!

TheoTurkey · 26/11/2024 11:49

Thanks @Chamomileteaplease - definitely like humans!

@bigdecisionaboutwork that's definitely a good idea (although I don’t have Velcro) but would possibly take longer!
