Evri scam?

Beezknees · 26/11/2024 06:47

Received an email from Evri this morning saying they have my parcel and it's being delivered today. I haven't ordered anything so I went to check the genuine Evri website and the tracking number is actually real and took me to the delivery page.

I most certainly haven't ordered anything from this company (it sells designer eyewear along the lines of Chanel/Gucci that is way out of my price range). All the details for delivery include my full name, address and email address. Checked with teen DS and he hasn't ordered anything either and there is no one else living here, I don't have a partner or anyone that would buy me such an expensive Christmas present! No money has been taken from my bank account either for any purchases.

I'm assuming it's some kind of scam but what kind? Has anyone else had anything like this before? If the parcel actually does turn up I'll send it back as I haven't paid for this but it's very strange.

I had a scam text from ‘Evri’ recently, it looked genuine. It said that no one had been in to take my parcel (DH was in the house when the text was sent) and that I had to pay £3 to rearrange delivery. That’s when I knew it was a scam.

Beezknees · 26/11/2024 07:00

I've had scam texts from Evri before but the tracking number in the email seems to be legit on their real website

Have you not ordered anything from anywhere? If the tracking number is genuine and your using the actual website not a link from the email they must have got the wrong email

Neeenaaw · 26/11/2024 07:19

I’ve had a couple of texts from Evri recently that I’ve put down to being very plausible scams. I do a lot of Vinted buying and selling so it wasn’t totally unexpected that something might be on its way via Evri, but one of the message said the parcel was damaged. When I followed the link in the text it then said I had to pay for redelivery, which I wasn’t going to do for a damaged parcel.
I tried to click on the pages below to get to the help centre, but none of them worked.

So I went to the Evri website on my laptop and entered the tracking number. At first it looked legit, but when I entered it on the online chat section it didn’t recognise it. I just stopped trying at that point and thought I’ll wait and see. A couple of weeks later I’m not missing anything.

These are very believable scams, especially at a time when lots of people will be buying online.

Someone has sent you an Xmas present?

sorrynotathome · 26/11/2024 07:21

Oops sorry just reread your post. Are you sure no-one loves you that much?!

Anonymityisvital · 26/11/2024 07:22

In the past I had a similar sort of thing happen with Royal Mail: on 2 occasions I got a text saying a parcel was going to be delivered when I hadn't ordered anything.
Nothing arrived and I just assumed they had sent the emails to the wrong person as there was no follow up.
This was in the early days of Royal Mail instituting their notification of parcel delivery system and it was a bit of a shambles - still was until fairly recently ime.

Not ordered anything at all. It's plausible that they've sent it to the wrong email buy they have my name and address down as the delivery address.

Can you contact the selling company and talk it through with them? They may be able to advise on returning the item too.

coffeesaveslives · 26/11/2024 08:04

If it's a genuine email then Evri won't be able to help you as their contract is with the company the parcel was ordered from.

Have you contacted the seller?

I'm pretty sure! I've got very little family, only DS and my mum really buy me Christmas presents but my mum is not well off and I can't think she'd spend hundreds of pounds on designer sunglasses for me. Same with my friends. DS is 16 and doesn't have that kind of money either. I'm not romantically involved with anyone and haven't been for years.

Haven't contacted the seller but I'll try that today

I’d wait and see if anything is delivered @Beezknees and just keep an eye on your bank!
You’ve not entered any kind of competition or anything?

I once had an expensive mobile phone delivered with my name etc on it and I was in such a panic thinking it was a scam etc as I knew I hadn’t ordered anything! Turns out I’d won a competition and the company just sent the prize rather than notifying me about the win 😂

Hmm possibly! I do enter the odd competition but don't really keep track of them.

@Beezknees Well I’ll keep my fingers crossed that it’s something nice for you 🤞🏼😊 Come back and update us when you get to the bottom of it!

TwoShades1 · 26/11/2024 09:13

I would keep an eye on the tracking and see if anything turns up. If nothing ever arrives then probably some kind of scam. If something arrives it may have information with it as to why you received it or you can contact the company it’s from.

MrsGlennBulb · 26/11/2024 14:05

Wasn’t there something on MN about a scam where you get an unexpected delivery correctly addressed to you, then a courier in “uniform” turns up to take it back coz it’s a mistake? Then later you discover you’ve been charged for it on your credit card, and can’t prove you’re innocent because it was delivered to you…...something along those lines anyway.

PumpkinPurple · 26/11/2024 14:19

I thought Evri was just a parcel delivery company, not a retailer selling designer goods.

RedRiverShore5 · 26/11/2024 14:24

When DHs credit card was hacked he had a pair of expensive socks sent to him, they had also used his card for other things so this may be some other type of scam/hacking, nothing to do with a fake Evri delivery. I would see what arrives, if it does

PumpkinPurple · 26/11/2024 14:19

It is but they tell you who the parcel is from? It says "we've got your so and so parcel" so I googled the retailer name.

Doesn't say out for delivery yet so we'll see if anything turns up.

PumpkinPurple · 28/11/2024 15:49

Did anything turn up?

Beezknees · 28/11/2024 15:52

Yes... and you're all going to laugh.

It was my contact lens delivery 🤣 apparently this eyewear company owns the opticians where I get my contact lenses. They've always delivered under the name of the optician before. Don't know why I didn't make the connection to be honest. A very boring update in the end! Sorry 🤣

There you go. Maybe you should've gone to Specsavers 🤣
I was hoping you'd get a pair a designer sunnies for free! 😎 X
