What shops do you love going into?

I don't mean shops you like because they're products are good quality, or because they're reliable for certain things, or because their customer service is great.

I mean what shops do you go in and think "Yes, I love it in here".

For me its Iceland Food Warehouse. Our local one is massive, really clean, really well-stocked and I always find completely random oven-able beige goods.
I could genuinely browse for hours.

We also have Boyes in my local high street. It's like a mini department store that sells basically everything you could think of. It's like stepping back in time. I absolutely adore it.

BOYES - For Good Value!

Boyes have built a reputation for selling a massive range of Quality Goods at Bargain Prices, selling virtually everything for the Home and Family, all with friendly and helpful Service.

Strawberry Fields farm shop near Lifton.
Flying Tiger anywhere.
Boosey and Hawkes Dublin (does it still exist? I used to love the old fashioned Bewleys near there, too).

DiaryofWimpy · 25/11/2024 17:53

Dobbies garden centre

MaryTwerps · 25/11/2024 17:53

Cant believe Boyes are still going. It's another Woolies/Wilko or a low rent department store. See also Yorkshire Trading.

Spidey66 · 25/11/2024 17:53

Ps I've not heard of Boyes. Is it a Northern chain?

CheeseandMarmiteToastie · 25/11/2024 17:55

@Ophy83 i could happily spend a day in St Pancras - just get the train down and back without seeing any more of London! It’s so much better than it was years ago when the whole area was quite dodgy 😳

For me it’s little independents and second hand bookshops, anywhere where you don’t know what you might find.

The white company... I feel inner peace when I step inside 😂

I went in one today & it was blissful Smile

H&M in Brixton, an oasis from the mayhem outside.

AHFBridport · 25/11/2024 17:56

We loved Narbeth when we visited this summer @BellaPommefritio, dd couldn't find a thing to wear in Cardiff then managed to blow the budget in little Narbeth.

purdypuma · 25/11/2024 17:56

Garden centres especially at this time of year. TK Maxx, random junk shops or a previously undiscovered charity shop. Shops that I wouldn't find very local to me. Much prefer Aldi to larger supermarkets as I like discovering what's on offer In the middle aisles.

Its sure is. Where else these days can you buy a length of net curtain, shoe polish, flash bathroom, a diary, fishing line, a tin opener, midget gems, and a Marks and Spencers coat.

MaltipooMama · 25/11/2024 17:58

Very basic M&S Foodhalls and B&M for me! Even if there is nothing in the world at all that I need I just bloody love being in there and filling up a trolley 😂

VacuumPacked · 25/11/2024 17:59

Simonjt · 25/11/2024 18:14

Garden centres, to the point that when we moved from the UK before I could agree to the move I had to visit several garden centres to make sure they were good enough.

Rainbow321 · 25/11/2024 18:17

BHS as was

basically shops were better as was .

muddyford · 25/11/2024 18:18

When I visit friends in the north-west, Booths. The best supermarket by miles.

I used to love Bentalls in Bracknell - there is now a Fenwicks and no comparison - I don't bother with Fenwicks all pricey in there but Bentalls was lovely and even had a beauty and hair salon.
I also like a bit of Longacres garden centre at Bagshot.

I enjoy the toiletries in TK Maxx and the home stuff not so much the clothing.

piscofrisco · 25/11/2024 18:24

John Lewis. Always feel reassured when I go there. Think because I used to go as a child every other week with my Mum as she used to do alot of sewing and way back when they had an excellent haberdashery department.

I like a bit of sostrene grene and I also enjoy its poorer cousin Flying Tiger.

Weirdly I also absolutely love a trip to ikea.

Frostypumpkin · 25/11/2024 18:25

I love a Polish or Asian supermarket, the bigger the better. Atlantis the art supply place I adore. Anywhere with a brilliant perfume selection, Liberty maybe.
And I love it if I find a really crammed , cheap, crummy charity shop. One where everything hits the shelves and nothing has been curated and assessed for its ‘eBay price’ Can’t beat a £1 charity shop.

BellaPommefritio · 25/11/2024 18:28

Lovely interiors/gift shop called Liv Home in Solihull with 2 floors, nice for a mooch

Lucia573 · 25/11/2024 18:28

Fenwick when visiting Newcastle. Also Waterstones.
