What shops do you love going into?

I don't mean shops you like because they're products are good quality, or because they're reliable for certain things, or because their customer service is great.

I mean what shops do you go in and think "Yes, I love it in here".

For me its Iceland Food Warehouse. Our local one is massive, really clean, really well-stocked and I always find completely random oven-able beige goods.
I could genuinely browse for hours.

We also have Boyes in my local high street. It's like a mini department store that sells basically everything you could think of. It's like stepping back in time. I absolutely adore it.

BOYES - For Good Value!

Boyes have built a reputation for selling a massive range of Quality Goods at Bargain Prices, selling virtually everything for the Home and Family, all with friendly and helpful Service.

I love a bookshop. Can spend hours in those.

But there are two shops no longer around I LOVED going into.

One was Habitat, before it was just part of Argos. They used to have a massive shop in Bristol and I could spend hours in there browsing the beautiful wood and furnishings.

But the one I really miss and loved going into more than any other is Topshop, Ox Circus. I really miss it, I feel so sad when walk past now and can't go in :(

I'd never heard of Vinegar Hill - looks amazing.

I live in York but I'd never heard of Upside Down either. I'll be sure to add it to my rounds.

I do also enjoy a good charity shop but I wouldn't say I love them to the level of Iceland. I usually find something nice but I don't walk in and instantly think "Yes"

I'm also quite surprised by the love for White Company. I love their Christmas candles but I find the shops a bit "meh".

It's just down Bootham, on the right before the turn to Marygate. Closed some days of the week so check before you wander along there.

Also a big M&S is always lovely

As is a big Oxford Street department store like John Lewis and Selfridges

Fortnum & Mason and Liberty are just delightful and gorgeous to wander around

I came here to say Burford Garden Centre. So delightfully mumsnet that it’s already had several mentions on page one.

Burford Garden Store, as it has been for many years (because the plants etc are really not the centre). I remember when it was two blokes in a shed with some outside plant trays…

If you are near or visiting Burford, the Stone Gallery is a delight. There is always something lovely which you never knew you needed ( and it’s surprisingly affordable).

I used to love LeClerc , just wonderful cheese, charcuterie, the fish counter 😀, thé gorgeous tomatoes and mushrooms, followed by Steak frites in their Bistro. Sadly we have moved, but Aldens in West Oxford is not a bad substitute for meat and fish, always something different and very helpful and jolly staff.

I love Kiko and Sephora stores.

I just wish whoever is in charge of the interior design, flooring, lighting, layout etc in M&S stores would visit the new Dunnes Stores in Dundrum.
It is ace.
A masterclass in how a store should be.
It's light and bright and entices you in.
Unlike the large M&S store a floor below, which is dark, gloomy and rather cluttered.

Whoever is the lead in M&S interior store design should pay a visit to Dundrum and compare and contrast.

Bunners in Montgomery, Powys is a wonderous Alladin's cave of home stuff, ironmongery etc. Part shop, part time warp, higgledy piggledy levels and nooks and crannies. It's a lovely experience to wander round.

Vettrianofan · 25/11/2024 17:34

Hobbycraft!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/11/2024 17:36

The food halls at garden centres. I always come out with a list of hampers I want you to make for people that I never actually make

Homesense/tk maxx homeware. And dunelm actually. They have really nice stuff that I can't afford and won't buy

The white company... I feel inner peace when I step inside 😂

Exactly what I was going to say!

Ihateboris · 25/11/2024 17:40

Grosvenor Garden Centre near Chester, although to be honest it's a lot more than a Garden centre. It's absolutely magical at this time of year.

cantkeepawayforever · 25/11/2024 17:40

Independent wool shops. The sort who also hold classes and where the staff will put down their own knitting to admire your latest project and offer praise and advice.

The nicest people ever. I’ve ended up spending a LOT of time in yarn shops over the last 18 months. They make me happy and I don’t even knit.

BunnyLake · 25/11/2024 17:43

The White Company. It just always smells so good. I can’t afford to buy there though so I just go in to soak up the smells and ambience.

Me too. I dream of having a place that gives off their vibes.

hexsnidgett · 25/11/2024 17:46

Also Dobbies and I live in a flat!!

Aworldofmyown · 25/11/2024 17:46

Oliver Bonas. Always tidy, everything is easy to see without to much effort. I don't buy loads but the colours, sparklyness and vibe always cheer me up.

mollydol · 25/11/2024 17:46

Yes to Burford Garden centre-beautiful things there! Cashmere Goose in Hartley Wintney is nice and The Golden Sheaf in Narbeth. I want to compile a list of towns with at least 3 such shops, good cafes and delis-so far I've visited Stockbridge which has 1 lovely interiors/gift shop and a great cafe, Stamford which has quite a few, Narbeth and Monmouth (nice shop called Salt and Pepper there)

Purplecatshopaholic · 25/11/2024 17:49

Lakeland, Anthropologie, and the humongous Dobbies just outside the city.

MrsJoanDanvers · 25/11/2024 17:50

Hollies Farm Shop in Tarporley is nice-though busy with the influencer crowd now. I love Heals in Manchester. West Elm when I make it to London-beautiful things. Bettys shop in Harrogate-love their fat rascals! I used to love a shop called Jerrys Home Store in South Kensington that I used to wander around playing furnishing my American home. That was years ago when I lived in London. I wonder what happened to it. And when we went to Llandeilo for the weekend, was ambling around and found Toast-had no idea this sleepy town would have such a nice shop.and wherever I am, always love visiting the local galleries.

Spidey66 · 25/11/2024 17:51

Merrymess · 25/11/2024 16:35

Same. I love Home Bargains Especially the Christmas section. .

Similar in that I love B&M and Wilko when it was around.

Another who loves proper bookshops, including Waterstones.
