What shops do you love going into?

I don't mean shops you like because they're products are good quality, or because they're reliable for certain things, or because their customer service is great.

I mean what shops do you go in and think "Yes, I love it in here".

For me its Iceland Food Warehouse. Our local one is massive, really clean, really well-stocked and I always find completely random oven-able beige goods.
I could genuinely browse for hours.

We also have Boyes in my local high street. It's like a mini department store that sells basically everything you could think of. It's like stepping back in time. I absolutely adore it.

BOYES - For Good Value!

Boyes have built a reputation for selling a massive range of Quality Goods at Bargain Prices, selling virtually everything for the Home and Family, all with friendly and helpful Service.

Lisa Angel and Head in the Clouds, both Norwich. Lots of quirky shops in The Lanes, love a browse on a weekend morning.

Doyouknowdanieltiger · 25/11/2024 16:43

Home bargains and primark

SuffolkUnicorn · 25/11/2024 16:44

Home bargains or boots oh and Sainsburys

SnapdragonToadflax · 25/11/2024 16:45

John Lewis, especially the beauty and kitchen areas. It makes me feel peaceful 😂

Flying Tiger - love searching for the perfect tat.

Anthropologie, especially the homeware

Liberty

Sostrene Green

Garden centres

And I love a big bookshop.

Shops that are an experience, like The White Company, L'Occitane, Selfridges, that sort of thing. Otherwise I love proper plant nurseries with a wide array of choice.

Oh, and of course Waterstones.

DanielaDressen · 25/11/2024 16:47

Oliver Bonas
Toast
Waterstones
TK Maxx and the home version of it

And the Ferrets of The North bookshop in Lille - nice stationery and cards.

Record shops in the 70s. - they were dark inside and I loved looking through the LPs.

Old fashioned toy shops where you could try out the toys !

Department stores. Hardly any left now 🙁 We still have JL and Harvey Nichols here in Edinburgh, but I miss Debenhams, House of Fraser and Jenners. Also an independent one in Aberdeen where I grew up called Esslemont and Macintosh.

I miss Jenners. Especially the Christmas tree.

SnapdragonToadflax · 25/11/2024 16:49

I thought of another - Cotswold Company. I want to live there, with the beautiful larders and cushions 😂

Cherrysoup · 25/11/2024 16:50

The Range. Went in today for random stuff, fat balls and ended up with a tree topper and mustard. It has everything (except waterproof dog coats in a medium). I also love Asda because again, it has everything, including my skin cleanser for a bargain price yesterday.

LadyRoughDiamond · 25/11/2024 16:54

The White Company, Neptune and the bedding/towels section in John Lewis. To paraphrase Holly Golightly in Breakfast At Tiffany’s, nothing very bad could happen to you there.

CourgettesCarrots · 25/11/2024 16:55

The Range
TK Maxx
Dunelm
John Lewis
Daylesford in the Cotswolds

deeahgwitch · 25/11/2024 16:55

The White Company - the one near Sloane Square (Symons Street ). Imagine living the lifestyle it projectsSmile

CourgettesCarrots · 25/11/2024 16:56

Surprised by everyone saying white company. I usually just do a swoop and come straight back out.

I remembered another one: Muji

CandlesOrangesRedribbon · 25/11/2024 17:00

Tk max, homesense, sostrene green, gorgeous little independent shops

Uglyducklingswan · 25/11/2024 17:01

It used to be paper chase (RIP)
Any bookshop, Oliver Bonas and Flying Tiger

KnopkaPixie · 25/11/2024 17:01

Old fashioned ironmongers, the kind of place where you can buy a jam pan and other jam making flim flam and white enamel cookware with blue rims. It must be freezing cold and ran by a man who looks like Ronnie Barker in Open All Hours, preferably wearing on of those brown shopkeeper's coats.

Extra points for having an ancient till and a small dog in a basket.

I'd never heard of Vinegar Hill - looks amazing.

I live in York but I'd never heard of Upside Down either. I'll be sure to add it to my rounds.

I do also enjoy a good charity shop but I wouldn't say I love them to the level of Iceland. I usually find something nice but I don't walk in and instantly think "Yes"

I'm also quite surprised by the love for White Company. I love their Christmas candles but I find the shops a bit "meh".

I'm so sad

I love Lidl and TK Maxx to mooch around

IntheArctic · 25/11/2024 17:12

I'd like to go back in time and go to the old John Lewis in Cambridge. When it was wonderfully traditional, well stocked and the staff had worked there for years. Then I'd pop over the road to Gordon Thoday and buy lots of fabric (to add to the JL stash). Then nip in to Joshua Taylor for a browse, coffee at Eden Lilley, pick up Chelsea buns from the original Fitzbillies, and finish off in the Leigh Gallery.

Edit: Oh, and Heffers, browse in there for a while, how could I have forgotten that.

Alwaysdreaming21 · 25/11/2024 17:12

Book stores and Sephora, I love Sephora

We have an old fashioned ironmongers at a nearby garden centre. You can buy 1 nail, a mousetrap, paint, electrical items and a full dinner service there. It's great.

Another person who loves Sostrene Green. Even DH who hates shopping can spend ages in there just looking. It's so well organised and flows nicely.
