16th birthday celebration ideas - please help!

I've been asking my nearly-16 year old what he wants to do for his 16th, and he just says "I don't know".

He has a small group of friends, mostly boys but a couple of girls, so I'm thinking maybe a treat for them rather than a party.

I've suggested an escape room, or a bar near us that has arcade games and allows teens in during the day.

He said "maybe" to both, but without a huge amount of enthusiasm.

I know he's feeling disappointed if he doesn't celebrate it at all.

Does anyone have any ideas?

What did your 16 year olds do for their birthday?

None of mine wanted to do anything other than pick where to go for a family meal. They just weren't interested in hosting a party. Out of 3 boys, only 2 of all of their friends had 16th parties. One had a club style disco at the local rugby club, with parents' friends as "bouncers" on the doors, and the other had a wild bash in one of his family's farm barns that was quite lawless by all accounts and involved some legendary drinking and vomiting.
I was quite glad none of my own were arsed about having a celebration of their own, TBH.
I've recounted the story of my cousin's "sweet 16th" house party on here before so will admit I am actually quite biased about the whole the whole thing.

Thanks for the response :)

We're going for a family meal on his birthday also.

I'm not suggesting a big party with teens drinking booze! (Which I would have loved at that age tbh, but DS doesn't want a big party).

But I thought it would be nice for him to do something with his mates, a treat of some sort.

I'd love some more ideas for a birthday celebration / treat.

What did you do for your teen's last birthday?

Thanks :)

Bowling and pizza, couple of adults nearby but not joining in.

Good idea, thanks :)

I'll add it to the list.
