Treating one’s self on birthday

It’s my birthday soon, I had major surgery in September and am now out of hospital and recovering well but still not able to go back to work, play sport or drive (and still have quite a bit of pain). It has been rough since end of June when I found out about this and have been worried and then in a really pathetic state (couldn’t even clean my own teeth). I absolutely love my birthday. I know it’s childish, but I really do.

On my birthday I’ve got a lot of medical check-ups but the day before I have a couple of hours free in the afternoon when I can do something nice to congratulate myself for getting through this awful period. The only thing is it can’t be too expensive as I really don’t have cash to spare.

Any ideas, please?

What do you like doing ?
Is it just you or for a family or a couple or..... ?

I mean, personally, if I've had an unpleasant or upsetting, or just worrying hospital appointment, I treat myself to a coffee out, even without it being my birthday.
For a birthday treat that has to scale up to at least a meal out.
But it depends what you like, and what you have access to.

For me, after such a rotten 6 months, then a trip to a comedy club or to see a comedian on tour sounds like a plan.
But that depends how much you mean by not too expensive as obviously tickets to gigs can be expensive.

Another thing I love (but read on here not everyone does) is a lovely vase of cut flowers to brighten up my house.

I'm sorry to hear you've had such a crap time of it. And that you have to have medical appointments on your actual birthday.

For the day before, maybe a 'beauty" treatment like a facial, manicure, massage?

Treat yourself to a nice lunch in a local cafe etc, take a book and just chill?

Happy Birthday

I'd treat myself to afternoon tea somewhere nice.

Thank you for all of your kind words and great ideas.

Luckily (?) I can’t have a massage at the moment because of scar/pain, I say « luckily » because I’d love a massage but can’t afford one. Same for a facial, I can’t lie down so will tell myself that rules out facials (as I can’t afford). 🤣

I think I’ll buy myself a novel and go for a coffee and cake type of thing.

I would love to go to a concert etc. and luckily we went to one (Hans Zimmer type thing), bought the tickets a year ago when we were less poor and so glad we did, it was BRILLIANT.
