London Christmas Lights

Hey

DS bday weekend before Christmas. He's decided for his bday treat he wants to see the London Christmas lights. Can anyone recommend what to see? Any routes?

How old is he? And would you prefer to walk or ride?

There is a thing where people do black cab tours but I wouldn’t know where to start with that!

The lights on Regent Street and Piccadilly, and Oxford Street, are usually nice. If you walk from Green Park down Piccadilly you go past Fortnum and Mason, which often has nice displays at this time of year. Then you can walk or bus up Regent Street (past Hamleys…).

South Bank is also usually nice at this time of year.

Thanks for your suggestions. He is 15. Wants to walk. Train in around 2pm, planning on staying til 9pmish.

Ok - I’d probably look to do Piccadilly (from Green Park towards Piccadilly Circus) and up Regent Street, then maybe down Oxford Street and into St Christopher’s Place, where there are quite a few restaurants and cafes. You’re also not far from Marylebone High Street at that point.

Covent Garden is also pretty at this time of year, although very busy. Though, to be fair, everywhere is busy at weekends in central London!

Last year the Carnaby St lights were brilliant, they always make a huge effort. And it’s nice to be on a pedestrianised street to admire them

Carnaby Street is a great suggestion, you could go there from Piccadilly. And Liberty’s is lovely for a wander if he’ll tolerate you dragging him into a department store 😂

And on the Christmas board. Perhaps we need a definitive single thread each year. With a map.

Soho Christmas lights that are designed by the children of Soho Parish primary school.

Turmerictolly · 24/11/2024 23:27

There is a Xmas lights bus tour too.

Seven Dials was embarrassingly shit last year (I had recommended it to a colleague based on previous years' quality) but I'm happy to report they have upped their game this year.
