Intermittent Fasting - What and When Do You Eat?

RikkiTikki · 23/11/2024 23:12

Asking because there is a lot of feedback on its efficiency for weight loss. My questions are:

Do you do it everyday or few days per week?

What do you eat and when? Breakfast is my favourite meal (yoghurt, berries and oats), I would miss it unless I made it lunch, but it’s not lunchy)

Morning hunger - I know I it happen. Does it get easier with practice? How do you concentrate for work?

Thank you!

I wouldn't advise every day but when I'm "on it" I'll do every other day.
I start after tea/dinner about 6:30, don't eat anything else and drink black tea, black coffee and water.
The biggest part of the fast is then done while you're asleep.
I can go to lunchtime the next day, depending on where I am dictates what I eat to break the fast.
If I'm at home it's poached eggs on wholemeal bread, in the office I'll take and eat my breakfast of low fat yoghurt and fruit then have my normal tea/dinner in the evening.
I tend to get headaches when I fast.

I've fallen off the intermittent fasting wagon at the moment, which I am very annoyed with myself about because it works very well for me once I get into it but that takes a few weeks. For that reason I really would recommend consistency as far as possible - the morning hunger etc does go, and I found concentration actually improved, but you have to get your body to fully adjust to it. You essentially have to break it sometimes if you want to live a normal life (e.g. I personally would find it bonkers to never go to the pub again because it means calories after 7pm) but the more you stick to it the easier it is. I've always found 11am-7pm as my eating window is best for me, and the least disruptive to family life but that's because we eat dinner together but not breakfast. I'm a big fan of doing breakfast for lunch and do have overnight oats for lunch sometimes. Eggs are also one of my favourite breaking the fast lunches.

I've made my mind up - I'm getting back on it!

I do it twice a week, 3pm - 7am. I'm close to the bmi where it's not advised but I don't care as I love it so much so will keep it up for life. Leaves me healthy and energised. I just drink lemon water or plain water when I'm fasting.
