Which PlayStation for DS12?

We have been a technology and screen free household (apart from TV and adult smartphones) until now, but DS is at secondary school and his friends play on their games things so I think the time is here for us to join in this Christmas.

However, because I am a technophobe, I have no idea what I am buying and don’t want make an expensive mistake!

He loves cars so I will get a driving game. But which console? Is a PS4 500 ok? Or not enough memory? Should it be a 5?

Extra points for any Black Friday deals!

Thank you so much in advance!🙂

Ps5 100%.

Anything else is a waste of money because he will eventually need to upgrade to the 5 anyway.

I'd go for a 1tb if you can he will fill 500 in no time at all. It's a real pain in the arse having to delete a game to install a different game depending on your internet speed he could be waiting a very long time to play a game.

Yea definitely PS5 🙂

Yes get the 1tb so there's plenty of space/memory

What is the difference between these two please? Apart from the price?

Get the Disc edition (not the Digital edition) of a PS5. Shop Facebook Marketplace, Vinted etc for games.

NoMoreCoffeePlease · 24/11/2024 08:26

Sorry forgot to tell you the reason! The Digital edition only lets you download games which are then tied to your Playstation Network account. This can be more expensive than physical games (which you can buy secondhand). In addition, a Digital PlayStation deprecates in value much faster.

NoMoreCoffeePlease · 24/11/2024 08:27

Alternatively, you could consider giving him a Game PC, which he can then use for homework as well - not just gaming. A good PC will be more expensive but it's a better investment.

Aquacitra · 24/11/2024 08:29

I would also say PS5 but you would recommend the disc edition rather than the digital edition. Sorry if over explaining but with digital they can only use downloaded/online games, there's no disc drive for a game disc. My teen buys a lot of 2nd hand games from CEX on disc. You can play PS4 games on the PS5 as well.

dontforgetme · 24/11/2024 08:52

Yes definitely the ps5 disc edition, we have the digital edition and it's a pain in the arse as we can't pop into CEX and get second hand games.

Yes, this was what I was going to say as well.
DS13 is a gamer and I knew nothing about gaming when he started. What I have learnt is that if you buy a PlayStation (I did), you can only play PS games (which are expensive). If you have a gaming PC (which I ended up buying as well), you can play x-box and Steam games on it (often at a much lesser cost). DS says the PS controller is better but otherwise gaming PC better.
Plus he uses it for homework and calls with his friends and things like that.
It depends what your DS wants to do. DD who is an arts and humanities student also uses her PC for gaming but more story-based games. There wouldn’t be anything on a PlayStation she really wanted to do.

Thank you very much, this all makes sense and is really helpful!
