Child coughing nonstop

DD1 is 5yrs old and has always been a healthy child except for when she gets a virus and her cough starts. She's been poorly with high fever and sore throat since last Sunday. GP prescribed her antibiotics but nothing worked so took her back as temp was 39.4. So GP prescribed another dose of antibiotics as she's been coughing nonstop. I mean nonstop because like literally she gives a gap of 5-10secs before another bout of cough. I feel so bad and depressed seeing her. She's missed school the whole week. Also when she was 3yr old she was diagnosed with Reactive Airway Disease(outside of UK). So the Paediatrician in my home town prescribed her prednisone (SOS) for 3 days whenever she has viral coughs. I told the Gp the same and she has said that'll be her next course of action if her cough doesn't improve with second round of antibiotics. Any advice or any similar experiences? How do I stop this cough??? Any stuff to improve her immunity so she doesn't catch these viruses in the first place

Sorry for grammatical errors as English is not my first language

I’d be asking for a trial of steroid inhaler/salbutamol inhaler with a view to asthma diagnosis
