Thai Takeaway - what's good?

Take into account I've only ever had a Thai green curry from a jar...what's a good thing to try at a Thai takeaway?

Tom Yum Soup

Chicken satay, dumplings, pad thai, all of their stir fries. Pretty much all of it tbh, I love Thai food

Is Pad Thai like the classic dish to try? It does sound nice.

ooh my ideal order (for two so we can share) would be:

starter
spring rolls
dumplings/dim sum

curry
green or red , although worth noting they are always hotter at a Thai resturant than out of a jar
massamam curry

coconut rice

pad thai

Mercurial123 · 23/11/2024 17:15

Phad Thai, yellow, green or red curry with jasmine or garlic rice and coconut custard with mango.

Pad Thai
Tom Yum Soup

Exactly this

We’d also get beef massaman with sticky rice

And mango sticky rice for pudding if they’ve got it on the menu… but they almost never do 😭

Cheepcheepcheep · 23/11/2024 17:16

Pad Thai has to be done if a decent one. Papaya salad is great but only done that in restaurants/in Thailand - not sure how it travels. I love pad Thai with all the bits (got to have a netting of egg over imo!)

If you’re a curry fan, usually a duck red curry is a good shout. I’m all about the appetisers - golden bags are heavenly! Also not authentically Thai (actually Vietnamese) but my Thai takeaway does summer rolls and I adore them.

Also like a Tom Yum soup but never sure how soup travels for takeaway!

I like the sound of sticky rice with the beef curry.

Massamam curry for me - I'm a wuss and can't cope with anything hot spicy and this isn't, it's lovely and melting your mouth deliciousness.

SleekWhisky · 23/11/2024 17:17

Penang curry or pad krapow gai if you like spice dishes

its a common dish, not spicy, just tasty and enjoyable

Aroastdinnerisnotahumanright · 23/11/2024 17:17

I love pad thai, at a good place it will be more "dry" than saucy. Corn fritters are nice too for a starter, and if they have it mango sticky rice for dessert.

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 23/11/2024 17:18

I’d choose beef massaman as I like a rich meaty curry. Also chicken satay and any kind of spring roll/dumpling is always a winner.

BoobyDazzler · 23/11/2024 17:18

I so want Thai food now 😭

look what you did Op 🤣😭

LadyMargaretPoledancer · 23/11/2024 17:18

Sweetcorn fritters

I like the fishcakes and chicken
satay sticks. I always get spring rolls even if not very original. I love green curry with prawn or chicken. Massaman curry with beef or lamb. You HAVE to get sticky rice. Love Thai prawn crackers too...

Ponderingwindow · 23/11/2024 17:23

good intros for newbies
Chicken satay
pad thai

any curry, I always get green because it is always allergen safe, but try the massaman if you can.

tiger cry beef salad

i love the coconut soup, but not everyone does. One Thai place o like actually warns people that you must like coconut milk to order the soup.

crispy duck salad if they have it, most places don’t. It’s so good though.

PenGold · 23/11/2024 17:24

Tom Yum or Tom Kha Gai soup.
Tempura vegetables with sweet chilli dip.
Pad Thai.
Thai beef salad for the meat eaters.
Coconut or sticky rice.
Mango Lassi.
Coconut ice cream.

Hahaha! I'm going for pad thai and beef masamam curry with sticky rice. I've roped my husband into this too so we'll get some snacks side bits.

Pad Thai
beef massaman and coconut rice

ZenNudist · 23/11/2024 17:26

Oh yes@LadyMargaretPoledancer sweet corn fritters are the bomb

They also do an amazing steak/ beef dish usually called weeping tiger.

LadyGabriella · 23/11/2024 17:26

Pad Thai with prawns or chicken.
Green curry might be better from the takeaway than a canned one
Red curry
