My house is a mess

Semishittip · 23/11/2024 16:52

My house is mess . No where near as bad as its been in the past but it definitely needs doing. I wanted to sort out the storage cupboard and put a shelving unit in there and sort my bedroom.

But as soon as I went up there all I could hear was mainly ds 17 nagging/projecting his voice and going on and on about a game. All 3 kids are in his room with him playing Xbox . I don't want to listen to it.

So I have ended up back in my living room sitting on my fat arse doing sweet fa. It's pissed me of because I actually have energy for a change.

Just stick some music on/ headphones and crack on. Don't let it prevent you from carrying out your plans

FailureAndSuicide · 23/11/2024 16:56

My house is a mess too. Obe gad a bath, feel sleepy and feel it's too dark outside to start tidying now. I'm in bed. Fuck it.

I can't stand noise in my ear like that . Plus I do Need to be able to hear what's going on around me . Also I wanted to be content with my own quite. I don't mind hearing the kids in general playing or what ever . But not the projection nagging stuff.

He needs to be asked to dial it down a notch then. If it is getting on your nerves, it will be getting on your other dcs' nerves as well.

Put a radio / podcast / audio book on or some grey noise.
Go up and do what you need to do or ask them to go downstairs.

I don't know if it is. They are staying in there. The others could easy play in their own rooms or living room.

It's like talking to a fish. Me: can you tone it down a but... ds Okayyyyy . 3 second later ds loud voice again.

Younger ds just came for a snack. I just asked is he nagging you and he said no .

Maybe I'm just getting old and miserable

I don't want to hear sounds.

I can't older ds is on gaming pc. Teen dd is on his other monitor with her Xbox. Ds 9 is on his Xbox ds8 is on ps4. In ds 17 room. There's been past difficulties with sibling relationships and if they are in the room together I feel like that's apart of fixing that especially between the 14 and 17 year old so I don't want to ruin that progress.

Just go and do it! You are making excuses and you could have done plenty by now.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 23/11/2024 17:23

Loop ear buds or noise cancelling headphones? You'll still be able to hear things around you, it'll just tone it down a notch. I wore ear plugs on the maternity ward, was a godsend for muffling the hectic noise 247 but could still hear my baby fine.

Singleandproud · 23/11/2024 17:26

You live with three other people, there is always going to be noise. they are all getting a long and have left you in peace so stop making excuses and get up and do it or do a job downstairs or make good use of the downtime make a hot drink and read a book / watch some TV.

Sitting scrolling and not doing anything isn't the answer.

It's not as simple as that . I struggle with the house. I always have done . I want to feel positive and content as I do it. Not hear constant voice projection. Its still early I'm hoping they might get fed up soon

Honestly in a house full of kids it is never quiet. I know, I have 4 but all grown up now. I think you are procrastinating. Go and do it!

I can't stand things on or in my ears . I know that's probably the standard solution but I really can't do it. I have never understood the wear ear plugs wear ear /head phones comments. I'm only just realising it's a me thing but I honestly can't wear them . I can't explain it. I feel closed in

This is why I didn't have kids.

I did say I'm not bothered about general noise kids playing getting excited etc. I don't even care if there is music so loud it shakes the house. Its the tone and voice projecting that I can't stand.

Xbox headsets can be adjusted he may have the volume up too loud so is over compensating by speaking too loudly. You can also balance between the game sound and the people he is speaking to.

Hell's teeth. No wonder you fancy a bit of peace and quiet.
Sod the house, relax. It's not important and it will all get done one (quieter) day.

p.s. I can't wear ear plugs either. I feel like a race horse with blinkers on (I know that's eyes, but you know what I mean).

Fair enough no i kinda get that feeling too sometimes.

They need a "man cave". Converted shed/garage/loft. Or just some sound proofing in their room 🤣

He's talking to his siblings who are in the room with him. Do I dare to go up there

Edited

🤣 2 have left home. To be honest they are not to bad noise wise they do have loud music on but I don't care about that . It's just the 17 year old. Sounds like im picking on him. But out of all 4 of them its him that I constantly hear and because if his tone it feels negative

Forgot to say yes that's how it feels sort of suffocating. Bot like your blinkers. Nothing to do with eyes it's ears. But I feel suffocated even though urs ears and not breathing

Is it because he's the one with the man's voice? It will be deeper than the others (obviously!) and he's bigger - also probably isn't yet entirely aware of how much louder he is than he used to be. You're possibly experiencing this as a negative nagging tone when it's actually just the way he naturally talks.

You're right, it's lovely that they're all in there together (even if they are all doing different things Grin)

I think that's,what it is. It's the deepness along with the projecting. He does nag though which also pisses me off. But some of it as you say he may not be totally awear

. They are all playing the same game together in there.. and yes definitely don't want to take the time away from them when they are getting on.
