I woke up to snow yesterday morning like many areas. The power went went the snow. This never happened before. Since yesterday morning I was checking the power outages and I kepts getting estimates for restore time. First it was yesterday and then it was moved to today and then this evening and now tonight.

What now. I tried phoning to talk to someone one person but it's a hotline.

Where do I go from here? Do I phone politicians may e to get this sorted?

I doubt a politican will do anything. Are your neighbours without power or just you? Have you tried contacting them on Twitter/X? Do they have a live chat facility?

Everyone is out of power.

I tried contacting the electricity on twitter but no answer.

Apparantly they are working at trying to get power back but we have been strung along all day yesterday and again all day today. Now we have been told night time.

It's unlikely they're "stringing you along", it's probably just taking longer to do the repairs than expected, or they're struggling given the weather conditions.

TheMixedGirl · 22/11/2024 15:12

If everyone in your area is out of power then I'm sure they are doing everything they can. Do you have battery packs for your phone to keep it charged up for now? Other than that I'm afraid you'll just have to wait. I understand it's frustrating but not much you can do

LittleRedRidingHoody · 22/11/2024 15:12

I think you just have to wait. I'm sure if it's effecting multiple homes it's a high priority to fix - it sucks for you but they're not going to be able to fix it any faster!

Try your local councillors, there may be something put in place to provide hot meals and drinks, warm space, showers and so on. There should be a local emergency plan.

BobbyBiscuits · 22/11/2024 15:15

If you go on the UK power networks website it should say the status of the outage and how long it will be before it's repaired. If you are a tenant contact landlord. Do you have a friend or family's house you can go to just for now. If it lasts more than a few hours then you'd be better off elsewhere. I hope it comes back on soon.

If the power is out because ice has brought trees down on your line etc, your mp can’t help. You will be got to when you are got to.

For next time, have a look here https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/preppers to see how to get through a few days with no power. If you care cold right now, make a Tent under a table with quilts and blankets or use a tent you already own to enable your body to warm some space.

Go through the Preppers board. Think about going 24 hours without power. Then think about 3 days with no power. Then a week with no power. You need heat, water to cook, eat and wash, food, light, occupation. Learn about how to drive in adverse weather.

How many power cuts have you experienced over the last few years? If it is many you might have cause to complain. If it is just this one, that happened during a spell of bad weather, I don't think you have much to make a fuss about. I'm sure your provider is doing what they can but they also have to think about the safety of their workers in bad weather.

I would also suggest that there are a number of levels of complaint escalation before the politician stage. I hope my MP would roll their eyes and get on with the more important matters if contacted on such an issue.

If you are vulnerable, you can register that with your provider so you get extra help during loss of service.

Greybottle · 22/11/2024 18:15

I experienced many power cuts over the past number of years but none ever were extended this long. I just had a strange cut feeling that it was going to be dragged out into tomorrow and beyond. I heard people in nearby villages were getting their power back even yesterday. I am not in any remote area by the way. There was something wrong somewhere.

I started to make phone calls at about 3 o clock and the power came back within an hour.
