Gammon in the slow cooker?

WoodyCoppicePlantationAlmaMater · 22/11/2024 10:51

I've ventured out into slow cooker territory for the first time.

Hints and tips please for a successful gammon ham in the slow cooker - hoping to avoid a disaster on my maiden dinner.

TIA

This is my recipe for gammon in the slow cooker - it's so nice. I know some people use coke to cook it in or you can cook it in stock but this is definitely my favourite

I don't put anything in with the meat, just screw up some tinfoil for it to stand on so it doesn't touch the bottom..bloomin gorgeous

I just put it in with a couple of cm of water at the bottom and it comes out great, the texture is like pulled pork. In my slow cooker you have to have some liquid so I wouldn’t just put it in dry but others may be different.

I just pour full fat coke on it and cook it on high for about four hours it's lovely.

stud with a few cloves, sprinkle some cinnamon and nutmeg on then cover top with whole grain mustard and honey. Cook for 4/5 hrs on medium, that’s it!

Soak it overnight

Line the bottom with sliced onions and apples for delicious home made apple sauce. The gammon can sit on that and you don't need any extra liquid.

As much as I love gammon, it gives me the dodgiest guts. I have to run to the toilet about half an hour after I've eaten it. Does anyone else experience this?!

I add a can of pineapple slices with it's juice and some brown sugar.
