Stupid car question

Slightly embarrassed to ask this but I don’t know the answer and dh is asleep otherwise I’d ask him 😂
I was just driving for half an hour and in that whole time my car heater didn’t really heat up. It felt warm at the vent but my the time it reached my face it was feeling cold.
So in the summer my aircon wasn’t getting properly cold and someone mentioned it needed more liquid in something (I’m being vague because I can’t remember what they said) but I never got it sorted because the intense heat stopped, and now I’m wondering if my heater needs more something in too?
is there something that needs topping up somewhere?
ps sorry for sounding so thick!

Did you put the heater fan on to help circulate the air? It should be a dial with numbers on your dash. Edit - It sounds like your heat was actually heat from the engine being warm rather than using the heater itself.

Air con needs "gassing".

Hmm. I think it was, I had the dial turned up to max and pressed the vent buttons for the places I wanted the hot air to come out of.

and thanks for not laughing at me 😂

We had this, there was a leak in the radiator and coolant was leaking. Check the coolant level and top up if necessary. It shouldn't need regular topping up, but we were refilling it every few days which wasnt normal. We had to have a new radiator 😬

The airgon regassing is separate, but can still affect the heating. It should be regassed every 3 years, but you can't check it yourself.

Yes possible you need a new radiator, or a seal, there might be a leak somewhere.
If not the radiator, it could be a problem with the heater core, the thermostat, or the coolant levels.
For the AC you would have to have it " regassed " with of refrigerant called Puron.

Did you find out what the problem was @TheChosenTwo ?

Unescorted · 23/11/2024 21:38

Mine needed the heater matrix replacing. It had become clogged with oil forming an emulsion after going for a service at the main dealership.
