Questions about vasectomy waiting list

I am currently in early days of pregnancy but it's a shock I am even pregnant (as we havent used artificial contraception since I was 22 and have been actively ttc for nearly 2 years). So for the first time in my life I have had to think about long term contraception.

I am toying between implant or iud but dh says he is willing to go for a vasectomy instead (as our family would be complete after baby arrives). I was looking at vasectomy waiting lists and it seems to take many months. Would it be possible to get on the waiting list (at a later stage of pregnancy) so by the time baby is born, dh can go for a vasectomy and I don't need to use contraception. Thank you.

Would they even give vasectomies to 34 year old men with one child or would they ask us to wait even longer.

They're not keen this young, certainly when you're pregnant, not already a mother. Friends were both 40 with three children, they were on a waiting list for nearly a year.

You could explore private finances permitting.

It's for my dh, a vasectomy . Not tubal ligation

Yes I know but until baby is safely delivered they'll be less willing to consider it.

But after baby is safely delivered, given the waiting list

Then you'll have to see what your GP says and go on the waiting list.

When I had mine the doctor didn’t cross examine me about whether I wanted any more, he just trusted my judgment. They won’t try and stop him if he’s sure about it.

16 years ago my DH had to wait till our daughter was six months.

My husband was 31 when he got his. He was only on waiting list for about 3 months . This was this year so not long to wait really. We only have one child and they just made sure it’s def what he wanted and listened to him. Ring your gp and they will guide you through .

My husband is 36 and is having it next week. Went to the GP in July and was referred then. Quick turnaround here.

I think a couple of months is fairly standard, but varies on where you are and how they work things where you live. One thing to consider is they are not 100% effective right away as sperm can remain in there in the tubes after the point of cutting. Can take a couple of months for this to go, and will advise using other contraception till they can test the sperm, which can be a good few months after the procedure.
