2 duvets one bed

It was freezing here last night. DH too hot and I was cold so I am considering the two duvets either a tog to suit each of us. We have a super king bed. If you do this what sizes would you suggest? I am thinking 2 x doubles?

We have a queen bed and use a single each but IKEA singles which I think comes up on larger side. We have used 2 doubles recently and it's definitely cosier but almost too much duvet in between you. I reckon if a very heavy tog double might start sliding off the bed and need yanking back often 🤔 though I'm guessing with a super king actually might not be as much of an issue tbf!

We have a super-king.

I have a feather double duvet, with cotton covers.
DH has a single, polyester duvet with horrid polyester covers.

We’re both happy with our choices.

We have a king size bed and two doubles on it - it’s a great compromise

Yes, two doubles.

magicstar1 · 19/11/2024 18:40

We have a super king with two doubles and it’s perfect. DH has a 4 tog right now and I have a 13.5 tog as I was feeling the cold recently.
I always buy matching covers and this also means we have spare pillowcases too.

My ex and I had two doubles on a king size bed. I’m tall and a single duvet isn’t wide enough. Worked well for us because we could snuggle together under one if we wanted to, which you can’t under a single!

NetZeroZealot · 19/11/2024 18:45

This is common on the continent.
2 singles is what you find there.

WASZPy · 19/11/2024 18:47

We have a superking. DH has a summer-weight washable double. I have a winter-weight washable and a regular with a fleece cover. And I throw on my weighted blanket over the top when I need it too.

Works perfectly.

GameOfJones · 19/11/2024 18:48

It is me that tends to run hotter than DH so we compromise by having a really warm fluffy throw over our bed. DH sleeps under the duvet and blanket and I sleep on top of the duvet, under the blanket so only one layer for me and two for DH.

Or just buy thermal pyjamas as an alternative to dealing with two duvets.

woffley · 19/11/2024 18:50

We've done this for years, since I was menopausal.
Super king bed and two single duvets. I have a 4 tog and DH a 15tog ATM.
I wouldn't like bigger duvets because I like to be able to get my legs out on both sides and I think two doubles would be hugely cumbersome.

Upsadiddles · 19/11/2024 19:05

We have a king size bed and just have two king size duvets. One goes under the other when it’s made. I wrap up in a complete cocoon in mine and sometimes a bit of DH’s while he has a corner of his over his legs and he doesn’t care if the rest ends up on the floor.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 19/11/2024 19:17

Two doubles on a king. Would never go back.

Sunnyside4 · 19/11/2024 19:39

I'd have thought two singles.

Half having a little chuckle here, as we've still got the summer 4.5 tog in use which DH hasn't moaned about.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 19/11/2024 19:45

2 doubles. But I was away and 2 ikea size singles was nearly OK. I think I prefer a double.

Myattention · 20/11/2024 09:27

Thank you all. This is very helpful.

Two IKEA singles. They are 150 cm wide which is completely ample for most people.

where do you get covers for ikea if the duvet is slightly bigger.

In ikea.
Or they fit the moomin ones from the moomin arabia shop, or finlaysons, or any European single duvet I think. I have moomin ones.

Yeah it does mean you have to get the covers in IKEA too.
