What's going on? I used to live off the bloody things find them a useful resource in an emergency, and now they seem to have disappeared off the shelves altogether. Is there no demand? is it case of us old-fashioned vegetarians being supplanted by vegans these days? I've tried several different shops locally.

Unfortunately I think you are right in saying that vegetarians have been supplanted by vegans. It seems to be the case that you are either a voracious meat eater,or a vegan who eats no animal products at all. No middle ground for vegetarians who don't want to eat meat, but do want to eat eggs, cheese, milk etc. Greggs is a good example of this. When my local branch introduced the vegan sausage rolls, they decided that something had to give way in their existing range. So they stopped doing the vegetable bakes.

I fear you're right. Next time I see a manager in Lidl, I'll ask. A shame, as I've been eating them for many years.
