Sex and UTIs

Good evening,

Ive been suffering with chronic UTIs since the Summer which coincided with starting a new relationship after being single for many years.

I get treated with antibiotics, the symptoms subside but then return within 2 weeks of the antibiotics finishing.

Im utterly miserable and in considerable pain, not to mention the worry about constant antibiotic use.

The only new factor is sex. We were both tested for STIs and I have a copper coil. We shower and wee before and after sex. Am I missing something?

An ultrasound scan was normal but I’m awaiting a camera to look inside the bladder.

Has anybody found a cure for this awful condition?

Thank you!

Use a condom?

Are these confirmed by dipstick / lab results (I ask as sometimes symptoms are incorrectly diagnosed without - this is the first key. It could be non infective cystitis, or a reaction to friction / lubes / Condoms / OR menopausal changes / STI / thrush etc
If true UTIs though - have a look at d-mannose supplementing. Make sure you urinate after intercourse.

All samples have been sent away. Some have shown no culture grown whereas others have showed positive for Ecoli.

I mentioned in my post that we were both tested for all STIs prior to having sexual intercourse and always urinate before and after sex.

No lube used and I’m late thirties.

I shall look into D mannose, thanks

I suffer(ed) from frequent UTI's too and D-mannose has been a life changer for me.

It's a naturally occurring sugar supplement. You can get it in tablet or powder form. I use powder form and put a scoop or two in a glass of water every other day and it's kept them at bay for over a year now. I had tried everything and this is the only thing that's made a significant difference.

Anyone else?

Not me but a friend always gets a UTI after sex. She hasn't found anything that helps other than to refrain from piv and find pleasure in other ways. It must be incredibly frustrating for both parties.

I think the problem is the bloke and the type of sex. Is he regularly going down on you, as that can cause it, and/or a bit lax with where he sticks his wang and its been in or around your back door?

It’s not the guy, he’s great in all areas.

Looks like I’ll have to try the supplements!

I reckon his saliva isnt too compatible with your fauna then, assuming he eats it.
