What a day!

This is what 6 year old DS said tonight when I put him to bed, he said he loves me and had the best day ever.

We actually did nothing as I was feeling pretty poorly. We just stayed home and he found a shoe box and asked if we could make a forest in it. We spent 3 hours on it, he's really creative and it's not usually my thing but I've enjoyed it so much.

We then put songs on in his room before bed and him and his little brother danced around.

What a wholesome day. Some days are so tough and then this happens and I feel very lucky! DH is out and I have noone to share this with so here we are.

Please share your little victories!

Sounds lovely 🥰

Sounds like something he will always remember. Precious!

By the way, it’s lovely to read this when I opened your thread thinking it was going to be about a terrible day with lots going wrong!

The little things are what really count!

I agree it was a lovely thread to open so good to read something so positive and lovely.
Especially as you weren't feeling well OP.
Your son sounds very creative and I'm so happy for you that you got to spend this day seeing yourself how he can entertain himself with his wonderful imagination.
Thank you for sharing this with us, it was really lovely to read about.

That's adorable 😊

I managed to get my teenage daughter to come out with me, with no coaxing whatsoever. It was something I'm interested in, not her, and she came along and was chatty and delightful the entire time.

I actually thought, I'll miss this when she gets a Saturday job!

That sounds lovely, the best sort of day.

It reminds me a bit of when I took my 5 year old Grandson on holiday in the summer. He has a few issues around food so we were careful to choose somewhere to eat that had suitable items on the menu, but even then, you never know do you?
He demolished his children's size sausage and mash and declared that it was the best dinner he'd ever had ☺️

Sounds the best sort of day.

How lovely he realised and appreciated it.

This is so lovely!! A couple of nights ago at bedtime our 4 yo asked if she and I could play tag in the garden in the dark- it was baby's bed time and I always seem to say no to playing, especially like this, but for some reason this time I said yes and we went out, the moon was so bright and the leaves were all rustley and we raced around the garden and she laughed and laughed, it was magic.

Treesnbirds · 16/11/2024 23:32

Also hope you feel better soon ♥️

my little victory tonight was talking on FT to DS1 who is at uni in Brighton. He has been horribly ill these last 2 week with a throat infection and then a sickness bug and I thought he would never get better and I would have to go and stay and look after him.

Tonight he was so much brighter. We can't be there for his birthday in 2 weeks for the first time ever, but spent a lovely half hour google mapping the bakery we will get his birthday cake from and deciding which cake he wanted - decided against a wedding cake or baby shower cake.

It was just wonderful

Seeingadistance · 16/11/2024 23:39

Aw! How lovely and what a sweet boy he is!

MagpieStars · 17/11/2024 00:40

This is one of the best things I've read on here in ages.
Your son sounds ace.
Simple pleasures & quality time creating something special (hope you feel better soon)

99lufts · 17/11/2024 02:49

Thank you for sharing yours! How lovely to hear the ones with your teenagers too, I can look forward to years of many more victories.

I will certainly not forget today, it has made me feel so warm and fuzzy! I'm now awake because of a pounding headache and it's still making me smile.

He has already made plans for us tomorrow and I need to find 3 more shoe boxes - we're apparently going to make one in the morning, one after getting dressed and one in the afternoon (including dinosaurs, volcanos and the ocean I believe) so we're going to be busy!

It sounds like a lovely day @99lufts and just shows that it is not necessary to spend huge amounts of money on lots of trips out and experiences, when time spent doing things together at home is so important.

So many people seem to think that their children need to go to places to be stimulated and to 'make memories'. Your DS will probably always carry this memory with him. Just being with your child and doing things together is so important.

ssd · 17/11/2024 10:53

Thats lovely @99lufts

Treasure these times. My big boys have grown up and moved away. I miss them but I'm content we all had many many lovely family times. In amongst the arguments!!

But you never get these times back so....enjoy them.
