Tesco - fresh fruit?

DustyLee123 · 16/11/2024 06:58

For weeks now there’s been a shortage of fresh fruit in my local shop, and from another shop that my online delivery comes from. Anyone know why?

Plenty here. Maybe ask a member of staff what's going on at your branch.

DustyLee123 · 16/11/2024 07:01

There hasn’t been any tomato purée available at the online shop for weeks either.
I asked the guy at the shop I was in and he just said he didn’t know.

I've noticed this at my Tesco. Only red grapes when my little one only wants black or green😅 it's been like it for weeks now

spanieleyes · 16/11/2024 07:13

I can't get grapes delivered at all, apart from the cheap" get whatever colour we have " ones- which taste awful!
Yet my local Tesco down the road has loads!

Serencwtch · 16/11/2024 07:24

There's a lot of problems with fresh fruit that comes from Spain due to the recent devastating floods. Some producers have not only lost their entire crop but their buildings, equipment etc.

It means there is now huge pressure on producers in other parts of Europe to pick up the demand - leading to widespread shortages. This is likely to continue well into spring next year & prices are likely to increase sharply (how much this will be absorbed by supermarkets & how much will be passed on isn't known yet)

Look for British fruit - apples, pears, plums etc

DustyLee123 · 16/11/2024 07:39

The lack of fruit was from before the floods, but I can see how that will affect us now and in the future

I had the puree problem and when I went to the store they had premium brand tomato puree so I reluctantly bought that instead. (I usually buy own brand)

Snorlaxo · 16/11/2024 07:43

My local Tesco has fresh fruit so it could be a local problem ?

Pascha · 16/11/2024 07:44

I went into both big tesco locally earlier this week to get grapes as they are continually out of stock when I order online shopping. Completely empty sections with boxes turned up.
Sainsburys had loads though, and good ones too.

OdeToBarney · 16/11/2024 07:48

I've had problems with grapes (but not other fruit) and tomato purée (only the expensive ones available) in Tesco, too. No idea why or when it might be resolved. I'm in south London.

PeachPumpkin · 16/11/2024 07:52

I’ve also noticed a lack of tomato purée in Tesco. It’s been going on for weeks.

SantaToSSD · 16/11/2024 07:54

No tomato puree here for a couple of weeks either. I am getting desperate as we use it a lot.
Also, no cooking apples. I have some frozen apple puree I made from my own crop of apples but that will run out by Christmas at the latest and I would really like to be able to buy some Bramleys. Surely Bramleys are a British crop?

FreshLaundry · 16/11/2024 07:58

I only managed to get Bramleys from a farm shop.

The price of apples is astronomical in Tesco, near £2 for 6 smallish Gala.

spanieleyes · 16/11/2024 07:59

I've messaged Tesco, apparently a real person is going to get back to me!

ScottBakula · 16/11/2024 08:17

I haven't had problems getting fruit , but I've not tried ordering grapes for a while.
I have not been able to get own brand tomatoe puree for ages. Instead ( on line) tesco suggests premium brand at about £2.30 a tube.!
I am beginning to think it's a fecking conspiracy to get us to spend more money.

About the tomato puree shortage?

PeachPumpkin · 16/11/2024 08:26

Good point about Bramley apples. There’s never any in my Tesco.

Got Bramleys last week, in a Tesco…

DustyLee123 · 16/11/2024 08:34

There’s no problem with apples/pears/bananas/oranges in my local shop, but there’s a lack of grapes/plums/nectarines/peaches that are usually there. Plus there would usually be persimmon by now.
They are filling the spaces with mushrooms and kale!

There are supply problems caused by the extreme weather conditions and ongoing Brexit related problems, paperwork and HGV driver shortages.

spanieleyes · 16/11/2024 09:29

Well, Tesco have replied to say that, for online orders, if they don't have enough stock, they will say it's out of stock!
Ermm, yes. I think that's pretty obvious.

spanieleyes · 16/11/2024 09:30

@VanillaPlanifolia

No, that was the grapes issue🍇
