Please can I ask a question about the Diwali celebrations at Downing Street?
Today The Guardian reports that the Diwali celebration at No 10 served meat and alcohol among other things and they have apologised.
This has been ramped up a bit by a Conservative MP saying how disappointed she is, but why is it such an issue? Or is it really an issue?
I have a few Hindu friends who eat meat, and some who are vegetarian. Is it a special thing for Diwali?
Why do you think it has it caused such offence? Is it offensive to all or just a particular subset of Hindus?
I've tried googling and am not finding much clarity.
Thanks
