Feeling awkward in different settings

I'm not sure I'm going to be able to word or portray this in the way that I mean too however I will try.

I am a very chatty person and I know I'm really easy to get along with but for some reason this really depends on the people around me. For example I work in a school and sometimes I find it difficult to be myself and to be at ease, almost like a bit awkward and never know what to say, however if I'm in the right environment I'm not like this at all. Why is that?

Keen to know if anyone else is like this. I hate how I am and because I have become to aware of it I now notice how other people seem so effortless regardless of the audience in front of them. I seem to feel quite easily intimidated lol daft at my age

I think I understand what you mean. Sometimes I think constantly about what I’m saying, doing, my facial expression, etc when talking to people. On other days it’s not an issue at all. It’s hard work! It caught me out the other day when I tried to talk to someone at work and utter nonsense came out. I felt so awkward because I’m quite senior and manage a big team! I find it’s worse when I’m out of my usual routine, and if I’m not at home, work, or out and about with my husband and child, it becomes more of an issue.

Yes that's the thing I feel fine when I'm in my comfort zone and doing my own thing and there is no expectation from me. I just think I'm really odd sometimes from other people prospectives but yet I'm so kind, down to earth and whitty when I'm feeling comfortable. I wish I wasn't so aware of myself
