Gift ideas for 20 year old

20 yr old relative (male) will be in London in January - I've been invited to a dinner for his birthday here. I've met him a few times but don't know him very well, he lives in SE Asia., going to be starting uni soon - currently in the armed forces. Please give me ideas for gifts, budget upto £50.

Only caveats are nothing too bulky so that he can take it back on the plane; and nothing very wintery - i.e. no woollen scarves etc because he has no use for this where he lives!

Given the transport issue, is vouchers a possibility...? Or would he be the type to like a plain piece of nice jewellery? A posh pen?

Starting uni in the UK or in wherever he is?

Could you sort of defer it with an IOU to get him something for uni when the time comes? It is an expensive period usually.

Or how do you feel about giving money? Some cultures tend to do money rather than presents and you could frame it in the light of him being able to treat himself whilst in London.
