Book recommendations for child about WW2?

Hello,

My 8 year old son has really enjoyed a couple of WW2 novels (Billy’s Blitz and Letters from the Lighthouse).

Can anyone recommend other reading suitable for that age set during the war?

My 7 year old really enjoyed My Secret War Diary by Marcia Williams. It’s written as a child’s diary, so there’s lots of illustrations and things like letters ‘stuck’ inside.

Goodnight Mr Tom - Michelle Magorian
Carrie's war - Nina Bawden. Based on her experiences of being evacuated during the war
When Hitler stole pink rabbit - Judith Kerr, her account of having to leave Berlin and escape to Switzerland.

The Silver Sword
When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit.
I'm not a particular fan of Good Night, Mr Tom (too many anachronisms), but lots of people like it.
Party Frock/Curtain Up - Noel Streatfeild

The Machine Gunners is really good. There’s also a sequel - Full Fathom Five, but I haven’t read that yet.

Michael Morpurgo has written loads set in this period. Usborne books do a good “See Inside” WW2 book.

Secret War Diary!

Winter in Wartime by Jan Terlouw
I think it's reading age 12 so depends on his level.

I am David by Anne Holm. Reading it with my 10year old. It’s not specifically about WW2 (but set in that era) but about a boy who runs away from a labour camp and is about his journey home.

Depending on his reading level, Alan Gratz has a series of books based on historical events.

At that age DS enjoyed Blitzed by Robert Swindells and Robert Westall's The Machine Gunners

These books are actually amazing.
