Republicans have both houses now so will get everything passed

Blimey that now means donald trump controls the white house and both houses.
Which means they can push through everything they wanted and no push back from the Democrats.
A mandate to change america to a place that maybe is not recognisable anymore

What with elon musk and vivek in charge now off getting rid of regulations that includes things that make people safe. It sounds like elon is just gonna start slashing and burning regulations and even the fbi. Especially as elon has been fined his company for not following regulations .
They are arguing republican taking point that it's about saving money but it's actually alot more about getting rid of people in departments which could have a big effect in the future and the regulations that they could get rid off could really affect people's health
I know trump fans will be OK but seriously if u r American or not does this amount of power now with trump scare you?
Plus ultimately now ut defo means Ukraine are fucked

Not necessarily there are still a number of normal Republicans in both Houses. Trump is testing them out with some of his more extreme appointments.

They would have to decentralise government departments away from Washington to have a chance to clear out bloated departments. Recruitment would require training of new staff, relocation of key staff. It could invigorate some of the poorer states.

Nato is as corrupt as they come. So no loss ?? Like why should USA prop up Nato and throw billions at it. And get nothing in return. Time for Europe to cough up and fund it more

How does the US “throw billions at NATO”? How can “Europe cough up and fund it more”?

How much does the US pay into NATO? And Europe? I’m not understanding you here.

I'm also really interested in what Trump supporters are referring to when they say "he will now do what he promised" and "his policies". Does he actually have any policies beyond sound bites? as far as I understand, he is planning to :

  • Deport illegal and legal immigrants from "undesirable" countries - so no cheap labour, I guess Americans will have to take over cleaning, construction labour and gardening
  • Raise tariffs - imagine this will increase prices for goods?
  • Sack a lot of civil service workers - huge amount of unemployed people.(but maybe they will be happy doing cleaning and gardening for half of their wage)
  • No regulations for oil drilling - fuck the planet but global warming is a lie (sorry, Spain) so its ok
  • ...what else? No abortions, no LGBT+, no employment rights, no free medical care, no social benefits, no other "leftie socialist" bullshit
  • No Nato, no ties with Europe - no idea what this will achieve, I cant imagine it improving anything for anyone

have I missed anything?

In addition to the above, he’s also promised:

  • free childcare
  • free IVF
  • abolish income tax (to be replaced by tariffs on imports)
  • end the Ukrainian war in 24 hours
  • release the JFK files
  • release the convicted January 6 terrorists from prison
  • imprison Joe Biden
  • eliminate taxes on tips
  • eliminate taxes on Social Security pension payments

Let’s have it then, Donald! He has the House, the Senate, and the Supreme Court has recently granted him Presidential Immunity. No excuses then…have at it!

I’m still waiting for his 2016 promises too:

  • border wall (funded by Mexico)
  • imprison Hillary Clinton
  • Muslim ban
  • repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (nickname: Obamacare)
  • Clean Coal (What exactly is “clean coal”? Energy experts have yet to define this.)

@izimbra

"Because they have more resources than everyone else - ie, 'from each according to ability, to each according to need' - and because they've also benefited from the protection and promotion of stable governments and democracy across large swathes of the globe."

Firstly socialism doesn't really apply to national security. The level of defence spending a country makes as a percentage of GDP is based on the level of threats to that country and not its ability to pay, which is why for example Poland spends more than say Spain despite Spain being a wealthier country.

Secondly are you familiar with the difference between absolute amounts spent on defence and percent of GDP spent on defence? Yes the US spends more in absolute terms on defence but it also spends more as a percent of GDP- at 3.45%. Compare this to say Finland which only spends 1.7% despite having a direct border with Russia and apparently being "next on Putin's list".

@Littlemissgobby. Which radio?? I've also just listened to the radio and whoever said, Trump will support nato counties who put x amount of gdp in like us does.

The pressure he put on last time apparently got countries to raise spending.

Why should America put more unto nato that eu countries?

This special relationship only started after Pearl Harbour they never wanted to be dragged in.

Why doesn't the eu start it's army it's the place under major threat?

I don't think putin will run rampage far from it I reckon he will be very unsettled by Trump!

Edited

Can you lease explain to me what “put more into NATO” means?

They’ve been weeded out, unfortunately…Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger, Jeff Flake, Mike Pence, Bob Corker, Rob Portman, Pat Toomey, et al. If you don’t kneel and kiss the MAGA ring…you’re out!

Matt Gaetz for AG who is under investigation by his own party for having sex with minors. Great example!

"Can you lease explain to me what “put more into NATO” means?"

To spend at least 2.5% of GDP on defence, ideally 3%.

Currently the US spends 3.45% whereas Spain for example only spends 1.28%.

So it’s not putting money “into” NATO per se; it’s investing in one’s own military. The US has historically run a large military industrial complex, and that is their choice. Given that Republican administrations like to pump up the military funding, I presume that this will continue. This is what was voted for.

I guess it's both really. Investing more into one's own military that is part of NATO thereby making NATO stronger.

I totally agree that it is the choice of the US on how much they spend on their military as a percent of GDP but equally it is their choice on how they spend this money including whether to continue the military aid to Ukraine ($66 billion so far).

Equally should they cut their military support to Ukraine then other countries in Europe are perfectly entitled to significantly increase their military spending and increase their military aid to Ukraine to make up for the shortfall from the US. After the Ukrainian war is closer to Berlin than it is to Washington so presumably it's in their own interest.

But they won't of course because they would rather rely on US taxpayers to pay for it.

"Trump made it very clear that there will be no “if” the US pulls Ukrainian funding."

I don't understand your point.

The US is entitled to decide how it spends its defence budget including whether it sends military aid to Ukraine or not.

Other NATO European countries are entitled to decide how much they spend on their defence budgets and how this money is spent including whether or not it they send military aid to Ukraine.

My point is that there shouldn’t be any ambiguity over whether the US will pull funding…Trump has left no doubt that he will pull it.

Not to worry though—he’ll solve the conflict within 24 hours.

"My point is that there shouldn’t be any ambiguity over whether the US will pull funding…Trump has left no doubt that he will pull it."

OK now I understand. Anyway as I previously said the US is perfectly entitled to choose how it spends its defence budget including pulling funding for Ukraine.

The European countries are also perfectly entitled to make up this shortfall by increasing their own funding for Ukraine - but they won't.

The reality of this conflict is that both Ukraine and Russia are currently too strong to lose this conflict but both are too weak to win it. In many ways it is reminiscent of the trench warfare stalemate of WW1.

Meanwhile the destruction and death toll continues and without US support to Ukraine then Russia can continue for longer especially as Ukraine is now starting to run out of troops.

Go Trump 🥳🥳

TakeMeDancing · 15/11/2024 16:21

His cabinet so far is woefully under-qualified people who all share the fact that they are major Trump ass kissers in common.
Stephen Miller tweeted that we can expect the stripping of naturalized citizens of their citizenship to be “turbo charged”.
Tom Homan was asked on 60 minutes how to avoid splitting families once mass deportations take place. His response was that the solution is to deport the entire family (ie, deport the citizen family members alongside the non-citizen family members).
Matt Gaetz, who has 2 years of experience as an attorney (no experience being a prosecutor, a judge, a district attorney, etc) has been given the highest legal role in the country—Attorney General. The the results of his congressional investigation on his sex trafficking, having sex with minors, and misuse of campaign funds was due to be released today. It will no longer be released (unless it gets leaked).
And so the circus begins.

So I followed David Pakman on YouTube. I don’t know if you’ve heard of him. He’s very good. He’s a democrat leaning person anyway he always talks about how the right wing talk about being a civil War. Well he actually has predicted something that is quite scary..
that Steve Miller said that he wants Donald Trump to have his own private army taken from the National Guard from Republican states and then they will push into democrat blue states who have said like California they will not allow them to seize citizens to remove and they’re going to push these unofficial Donald Trump private army a bit like I suppose Hitler’s SS and try to push them and then that means that the blue states will have to have their own law in order against this private army and this could start off some sort of civil war because California has stated they will not allow any citizens to be removed

Am gonna be depressed for the next four years like the first term the media love him as so many talking points but I love politicians that don’t do that. Labour might be boring but I am great with that it doesn’t make you worry

Beware - he made a joke recently suggesting he could change the laws around the two term limit 😔
