What are you looking forward to?

This was a journal prompt I saw, and alarmingly I can’t think of a single thing. It might be depression but equally it might just be being a mid-40s working single parent who is a bit exhausted.

What are you looking forward to?
I think there must be things I’m just forgetting or missing (due to aforementioned tiredness) but even fun things coming up, I would secretly be happy if they were cancelled.

Or they involve so much organisation/childcare that I can’t be bothered.

The best thing I can think of is a half hour lie-in at the weekend!
When did it come to this!?

TeenToTwenties · 13/11/2024 18:26

Seeing Pirates of Penzance next month.

Chowtime · 13/11/2024 18:26

A holiday i've got booked.
My lodger moving out
Christmas
Retirement

Howmanysleepsnow · 13/11/2024 18:32

Christmas
The mulled apple juice cooling down on the stove
cold crisp weather next week.
picking DS up from his first day in work tomorrow and hearing how it went!
Finishing decorating my lounge.

DatingDinosaur · 13/11/2024 18:49

5 random days off work during December
Getting my hair done
Short break in January
Catch up coffee and chat with various friends

Might not seem like a lot but I make myself see and appreciate the small things.

There's nothing wrong with appreciating an unexpected lie in either!

MessyNeate · 13/11/2024 18:54

A few things actually!

Brand new car will be delivered on Friday

Receiving our wedding photos hopefully in the next two weeks

Trip to Edinburgh to see DH between Xmas and new year (he's working away for 3 months)

A cheeky sun holiday in January for my birthday, though not booked yet but we were looking at a cottage or log cabin. It's cheaper to go self catering in Tenerife for 5 days and be warm!

Frith2013 · 13/11/2024 18:55

My dinner being ready (15 minutes). Shakshuka tonight.

FA trophy match locally on Saturday.

Finishing the mad rush on housework that I planned for this week.

I've found a charity shop Christmas present for my chess opponent and I am looking forward to cleaning the chessman (probably 90 years old).

Thank you all. You have reminded me of some little things I can also look forward to. I am normally ok at appreciating little moments of joy but today must have been one of those days and I am feeling “the grind”

Namely I’m having lunch out at the weekend - it’ll be a long drive but hopefully yummy food. And maybe I’ll get a nosey a around a charity shop at the weekend too.

Early night. Got splitting headache

gamerchick · 13/11/2024 20:24

Nothing. But I'm still grieving a bairn so it'll probably be shit for quite a bit. It's always useful to count blessings when the grind gets us down I think and it's always useful to make a plan to do something fun and something to look forward to. It's self care stuff I think.

AgileGreenSeal · 13/11/2024 20:25

A cold sea swim tomorrow morning.

KimFan · 13/11/2024 20:25

Heading to Cornwall and Devon for a little weekend break on Friday. Can’t wait!

Newsenmum · 13/11/2024 20:26

It may not be big moments atm, but any little things in your day? Such as when your child’s in bed and you can have some chocolate/watch/read something? Or a catch up with a friend? Or getting out the house?
It sounds tough for you atm.

Changeyourfuckingcar · 13/11/2024 20:29

DH and I are going to a dinner party on Friday evening with some dear friends, four other couples who are all just all round great people.
I am getting my hair done in a couple of weeks. I only have it balayage-d every six months or so, so it’s always a massive treat!
Christmas is coming and our three year old is the perfect age this year to truly ‘get’ it
And a big one, we’re due our second child in March!

teatoast8 · 13/11/2024 20:30

Also, I'm due my third in May!

knackered101 · 13/11/2024 20:31

I have a new little nephew who has started smiling, today he was very close to doing his first ever giggle. I can't wait for this!
I was so depressed last year, it's amazing how happy this little bubba is making me.
I'm also looking forward to opening the Quality Streets and Baileys.

StormingNorman · 13/11/2024 20:33

My first thought was retirement…I just turned 46 😂

Sallycinnamum · 13/11/2024 20:34

Snow (supposedly) next week and my lounge being decorated next week.

I find looking forward to small things such as going to bed early to read a book or a cuppa at the end of a tiring day are just as pleasurable as the big things.
