I am scheduled to start work on a bridge today which I am terrrified about as it means drilling the teeth either side.
BUT a week ago a different tooth started to hurt.. nerve pain deep down. It's not agony but a low level constant pain under a huge old filling. Dentist couldn't see any decay but said it might be cracked.
There isn't time to do both AND I'm terrified of the drill either way. Do I get the bridge started and hope the nerve pain subsides for another day, or do I get the filling dug out in hope that a replacement will fix it and reschedule the bridge work ? I am scared still of the sound of the drill..phobic due to a dental error years ago (which is why I have a mising tooth!)

Help!

Hi Op how did you get on?
do bridges need drilling teeth either side? I thought they were just glued on?

No they have to drill down a healthy tooth either side, and crown it.. the crowns each side are the anchor point.
I had mine done... spent a very uncomfortable Xmas with it hurting, .. and this week got it filed down where the bite was too high. It still doesn't feel entirely natural but it's ok now... my face has missed the tooth for years so needs to readjust!
