Do you spend money every day?

I do and I’m really trying hard to have some no spend days but there’s always something! Even just needing bread and milk and this suddenly turns into spend &10/£15 in Tesco picking up other bits. Other days can be train fare to work and then realising I need a drink/snack to go with lunch I’ve brought. It’s not massive amount every day but after looking at bank statement there’s something on there every day! Anyone else?

No. We had lunch out on Sunday but not spent anything since.
Won't buy anything now until I do a food shop on Friday.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 12/11/2024 20:38

No definitely not, I rarely spend anything on work days.

EggandStress · 12/11/2024 20:39

I'm about to start a new job where I won't have to use the train and so will avoid picking up things for lunch/ snacks / coffee as I go through the station. I sometimes spend up to £17 in one day on tube + M&S buys. It's ridiculous.

Yes, every single day.

I take the Tube 7 days a week most weeks and pay as I go, and buy a takeaway coffee every day.

Youhaveyourhandsfull · 12/11/2024 20:40

It's very hard not to, we have a big family though. Petrol is once a week, groceries a few times, plus there's always something the kids need or something that breaks. And that's before anything properly discretionary really.

ByMerryKoala · 12/11/2024 20:56

Yeah, we have three kids and between the various school payments, hobbies and tutors, I'd be amazed if that doesn't bring us close to everyday spending alone. Before we even get to keeping everyone fed, in clothes and maintaining the house and cars.

Keepmedicationoutofthereachofchildren · 12/11/2024 20:58

Yes I use electricity/water, eat food use toiletries and laundry products everyday.

Howmanymoredays · 12/11/2024 21:02

No. Fill the car with petrol every few weeks, and online grocery delivery once a week. Only other expenditure is mortgage/household bills via direct debit, school fees and regular payments for extra curricular clubs for my daughter.
Presents for birthday and Christmas ordered online twice a year.

BigSmallFigBall · 12/11/2024 21:09

Yes.

Therapy and tutoring for my child are separate spends on separate days.

Topping up groceries.

Tube fare. Coffee and lunch at work (twice a week).

Birthday presents. Poppies for remembrance day, a few coins for tombola. Supplies for cats. School shoes outgrown. Wine or chocolates when invited to someone else's house. Etc etc etc

At home, I have some days without spending money but it depends as I use the time I don't commute to sort out shopping, chores, admin.

When I am in the office I pay for the train and lunch, we don't have a lot of leftovers and I hate making a cold lunch first thing in the morning.

I am lucky, we get free drinks (coffee, tea, water) at work so I may get a juice and a yoghurt if I need a bit of a change but I try to get multipacks and leave them in the fridge/personal cupboard so I don't buy expensive single ones each time.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 12/11/2024 21:23

Some days I don't but most days I do. I try to have at least 2 days when I don't.

I still think I can't spend money even though I've got it and have given myself a daily allowance.

Today has been a bad day though as I was in the office and out last night so didn't have time to make lunch, I had to buy it. Then got back and couldn't face cooking dinner so had Dominoes instead. But I probably won't spend anything until Friday or Saturday now and nothing on Sunday.

GettingStuffed · 12/11/2024 21:24

No, but I will on Friday and Saturday plus Monday then probably nothing until the following Saturday unless I go to Lidl or buy Christmas presents.

stayathomer · 12/11/2024 21:27

Yesterday money for kids’ Christmas cards, the day before money for secondary school application, today diesel, tomorrow vet, Thursday will be shopping. So at the moment yup pretty much!!! Went through a horrible phase of buying daily but now we freeze bread and buy enough milk for the week and get diesel once a week. I found when I was in for bread I’d grab something else and we really couldn’t afford it

StarDolphins · 12/11/2024 21:27

No I do t spend every day, I’d be broke! I go to Waitrose & Aldi for shopping once per week and definitely don’t buy something every day.

Although I put £32.50 on parent hub each week for lunches for the week so I guess technically I am spending every day!

leia24 · 12/11/2024 21:33

I think I spend every day. There's always something. I don't know if I spent any money yesterday actually. But I feel like I've always forgotten something or need petrol etc. I don't really get coffee or snack food while I'm out but I do pick up other bits.

asterixa · 12/11/2024 21:40

I have started to get UHT milk with my weekly shop, which we use after the fresh milk is finished.
Also making my own bread, often using bread mixes.
It has saved so much money as I don’t go to the shop anymore for top ups, which always ended with me buying extra stuff we didn’t need.

TheChosenTwo · 12/11/2024 21:43

Yes, every day. Today it was contributing to a new baby at work, lunch at work, petrol and paying for some flights.
I don’t really understand no spend days (other than for cutting out things like lunches out, Starbucks, earrings as a treat sort), the things I spent on today - even if I had held off paying for, would still need to be spent on another day so it wouldn’t save me a penny.

I can go months without spending. At the start of the month I put everything into “spaces” for all my bills, petrol, meds and lunch. Anything after that it’s very rare I spend, I’m a saver and love getting interest at the end of the month.

Can you expand on this please? I’m trying to be better at saving.

Gnomegarden32 · 12/11/2024 21:59

No but I can easily start spending every day if I'm not careful - I have to consciously rein it in

buffyspikefaithangel · 12/11/2024 22:02

No, once a week usually

ABirdsEyeView · 12/11/2024 22:04

Yes I spend every day. Today I needed milk and ended ip spending £12 in co op. Also did an M&S order and got a few bits for Christmas on Amazon.
Yesterday bought medicine Boots and did a good shop. There's always something!

You go months without buying food or paying utilities?

Simonjt · 12/11/2024 22:06

If varies, I have this week, saturday I paid a train fare, sunday again train, monday our electric bill was due, today my car insurance was due.

obsessedwithfreshbread · 12/11/2024 22:07

No, I food shop most weekends (some weeks DH does it) and try to plan so as to avoid top ups during the week.
I wfh so it has to be a conscious decision to go to the shops
I have just checked my bank and my last spend was Sunday, we were out for Remembrance Day but we played the Wetherspoons game so bought a round for strangers to pay it forward!

Monvelo · 12/11/2024 22:08

Feels like it. We realised we spent A LOT of money on Amazon last month so having a ban this month.
