Anyone sold gold lately? Do you get ripped off or a fair price?

As the title really. I need to sell some 22 carat (karat?) gold jewellery but don't really trust those places where you post it off. If anyone has sold gold recently how was it? Did you find it OK to post or was going to a jewellers better?

I have. I bought some cheap digital scales for an accurate weight then checked the price of gold on the day I was going to sell it.
I had a rough idea how much it was worth and took it to 4 jewellers.
I was offered various prices, far lower than the gold price but eventually I found a jeweller who actually asked me what I'd been offered.
Told him, adding another £150 which made it market rates and he offered me that price, which I accepted.
You really need to go armed with the information on prices that day.
It also depends how much they want it, I had quite a bit so it came to a reasonable price.
Don't send it off by post though. By the time they've received it the price of gold will have changed.
It fluctuates quite a bit day by day.

I'm not but thanks for the tip about what to do if they ask you what you've been offered. I'll use that.

Thanks for the tip @twiddlingthumbs69

It was a 1912 22 carat gold sovereign coin in a 9 carat mount. My husband went to a jewellers with it and was given £500 for it which I'm happy with.
