Have you been to a gig at the 02 Greenwich?

It is a loooong time since I’ve been to a large venue.

How do you find out what time the band comes on?

Gig tomorrow, taking DC, ‘doors open 18:30’ is the closest I can get. I don’t want to be there at 7pm if the band’s not on till 9. Nor to miss it if they stroll on at 8pm and I’m assuming it will be later.

Is it worth pre-ordering food and drink? If I don’t do this are we going to be waiting hours in queues?

Sometimes the band or the venue’s social media will say (less likely that the O2 Greenwich will have it on their socials though). You can also look at the band’s page on setlist.fm (I think that’s the url) - this is a fan powered site where people post the set list of the gig they went to, but it usually has stage times as well. It is not necessarily 100% accurate for your gig but you can usually get a sense of the stage times over the tour to help you figure it out.

Don’t really know about food and drink, sorry! It’s worth having a plan regarding buying merch - the queues are usually long and depending on where the band is on their tour and their fan demographic, certain sizes may sell out.

The O2 has lots of restaurants so we generally eat before we go in to the actual arena although the restaurants also get very busy . The food inside the arena is quite expensive and crap .

We ate in Canary Wharf as less busy, more choice and cheaper. I think our doors opened at 6.30pm and we left Canary Wharf then, which gave us time to travel, buy drinks and chat before any support act started

Can't talk about the O2 specifically but if doors open at 18:30 generally the main band come on at 9 if there's a support? I always aim to get there at 20:30. I have never yet missed the main band. Very occasionally they've come on at 20:45 but generally 21:00.

Most places there don’t let you book when a big event is on. You just get in the queue.

Thanks everyone this is very helpful!

Is it Cigarettes after Sex. I'm wondering this info aswell.
There appears to be no support act, so what time will they start

The queue to get back into the tube after the event can be awful. We get the boat and it stops at the London eye for Waterloo. Takes a bit longer but is very pleasant and you cab get a cup of tea on the boat!

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 12/11/2024 00:21

@TooTiredToType77 Interesting! What is the queue for the boat like?

Me too-do you think they will be finished by 11pm?

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 12/11/2024 07:58

‘Curfew’ at 02 is 11pm. I very much hope they will finish long before.

Thanks for the tip about the boat. I might book this.

EmpressaurusKitty · 12/11/2024 08:24

It’s ages since I’ve been to a gig at the O2, but catching a late boat back into town is fabulous. Everything is lit up & it’s a great end to an evening.

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 12/11/2024 23:49

Timings tonight were: band on at 8:30, played till 10pm. Slow but steadily moving mass of people onto the tube. All very smooth.
