Living in Edinburgh

What's Edinburgh like as a city to live in?

I've visited once on holiday and loved it. But I'm from London and I'm genuinely curious how the cities compare on "things to do"?

As in is Edinburgh bustling and full of life? Understandably the city is smaller.

My son lives in Edinburgh and loves it.
A beautiful city with loads of art galleries, historical buildings, theatres, bars, restaurants etc. A good public transport system too.
The only time he doesn't like it is at Festival time when it's absolutely jam packed with visitors. He and other residents get a bit fed up then because it's difficult going about day to day life - he works just off Princes Street so hard to get away from visitors there.

Safety wise I assume it's a lot better than London?

Well like every city it has its share of crime. But apparently it's considered one of the safest cities in the UK. So I'm assuming it's much safer than London.

I know there are certain areas that have a reputation for not being great as regards crime. But again, that's the same as most cities.

It's fine as a city but I don't go into the centre at night. I'm 61 lived here since 25.

Great bus service. I don't drive into the city as I have a bus pass but didn't for years prior to this.
Roads are a disgrace loads of potholes. Though there is a lot of resurfacing just now.

Add it to the incompetent SNP and horrendous health service (I'm a retired GP and my head hurts from banging it with ridiculous ideas)

Also higher taxes.

I wouldn't choose to live in Edinburgh but family are close
