Wiped out by this virus going round

I do not get sick very often. This virus is making me feel very miserable. I don’t do well when I am not able to do my usual amount of exercise. I usually go out for 2 long walks a day.

about 10 days ago I got a very sore throat, lost my voice for a week and now I have a cough. I can’t seem to shift it, I still wake up every morning with a throat like razors. It’s cold outside and I feel wiped out with no energy so I’ve not been doing any proper exercise for 10 days and I am worried I am setting myself back having a long break, also I lost weight the first week as no appetite now gained some of it back

It is just a virus I don’t need to see a doctor I don’t have an infection, any good tips to try to get back on track? (Not covid I tested)

Rest.

DC caught it at the same time as COVID and Flu vaccinations. Thankfully over half term but he still only managed 1 day in school last week. It's awful.

I had this at the end of September. On my had a day off and pushed my self through "normal" work and gym, but I was massively underperforming at both. A month later it was back with a vengeance and knocked my off my feet for a week. I have tentatively gone back to the gym this morning.

I don't know if it's the same stain, but I have something similar at the moment, and also can't exercise, etc. Chloraseptic spray helps my throat when nothing else touches the sides of it. And ricola throat drops are the only ones that don't make me nauseated by the sweetness. Both are on amazon for 24 hr delivery.

Genuinely, rest.

If you don't then you will just make yourself worse.

Eat healthy protein filled foods and vegetables, get your feet up, keep your throat warm with some lemon and honey tea.

Thanks all. I exercise for my mental health so not having that is making me flounder. I am not a TV person, so I don’t know what else to do with myself! I feel better in the middle of the day but I agree going back too soon just makes it go on longer as you tire yourself out too much

Have you ever considered taking up a cosy hobby like crocheting or knitting.

I know this sounds really daft. I do powerlifting and it's done wonders for my needs for tactile stimulation and proprioception.

I've noticed when I'm sat crocheting I'm constantly moving my shoulders arms and hands, sometimes for hours, whilst being sat down doing not much and my arms truly feel like they're getting a workout, and it's ticking all the boxes for my proprioceptive and tactile needs.

It is a skill, but there are some really good teachers on YouTube and if you like doing things rather than staying idle it might be a good compromise?

It sounds like you should actually go to the doctor and get some help. Having a sore throat that long is unusual. You might have a viral or bacterial infection in your throat.

What about looking up a stretching or restorative yoga class online?
Even a mobility one

I don’t have a temperature anymore, I am getting better just slowly.

Just have no energy so it’s post viral fatigue perhaps?

I do usually do Pilates, weights, walking and gym but been waking up late and going to bed early so not been having energy for anything

You may have had covid. We've had the same symptoms (plus achy hips) and tested positive for covid after a few days. I tested negative again on Friday and my throat is still sore and I'm exhausted (day 14 since symptoms started, day 12 since positive test).

Jackie801 · 12/11/2024 06:38

I did test for Covid it was negative.

I have been up since 4am coughing, it is a tickle cough. The sore throat is improving but I get all bunged up in my nose then it all drips down my throat and makes me cough, I am exhausted. I have work today. I’ve already had 3 days off. Another day of no energy. My chest muscles are all sore from coughing. The cough isn't even one to see a doctor about either it’s just a dry tickly cough. I see how people get depressed through illness it is making me so miserable and it’s just a cold

Yep- been there. Did 3 covid tests- all negative. Didn’t have the sore throat for more than a few days but the cough was ridiculous- up for hours at night coughing, having daytime coughing fits where I’d literally not be able to breathe between coughs and would have to just excuse myself from Zoom meetings. Lasted about 3 weeks and suddenly got better over a day or two.

A tip from here that helped a bit- codeine based cough medicine now banned ( of course it is because it actually works) but you can buy Solpadeine ( painkiller) OTC which contains codeine and I found that helped a bit at night- possibly just placebo though. Also decongestants to control the nasal drip. Finally- old wives tale but Vicks Vaporub on soles of your feet before bed ( socks on top). HTH.

The cough and the snot is ridiculous. TMI was up since 4am yesterday sneezing and blowing nose it is like a river it just doesn’t stop. And this is nearly 2 weeks in! But today the cough is better although I coughed and it was pink 🤧 I slept for 12 hours again and the burning up my nose/throat is still there but I feel less blocked up and less awful than yesterday. Still not exercised just come home from work, eat and go to bed. Get up late and rush to work.

Best thing for nasal congestion- Otrivin menthol nasal spray. Only use it for a week though otherwise you get addicted.
