Do you wait for 1p/2p change in shops?

I know cash isn’t common for many people now, I never really use it.

But do you wait for small sums of change like 1p or 2p?

As an aside, what’s the smallest coin denomination you’d bend to pick up in the street?

The only shops I use cash in tend to be small local businesses and they almost always have a charity pot next to the till eg for guide dogs etc. If I know I'm due 1p or 2p change I'll tap the pot and say "thanks - pop the penny in there - bye now" as I leavs.

I never pay in cash, so not an issue.

When I used cash, I'd just tell them to keep the change or put it in the charity tin.

I'd bend for 50p. I'm cheap like that 😁

If I use cash I get change 🤷‍♀️

I wait for my change always, and ask for a receipt too. I pick up any coin I notice in the street. Quite often check the rejected coin slots in car parking machines etc. and encouraged my kids to do so. I found £1.20 in the supermarket machine last week 😁

I work in retail. Hardly anyone uses cash but I'd say 99% of customers who
are getting under 10p back in change stick it in our charity tin.

Always used to wait for change when I used to pay in cash

nomorehocuspocus · 10/11/2024 23:26

I'll always wait for the change, but if it's only a few pence it goes in the charity tin.
