Gas oven flame come out of the side of the flame shield

Hi all, only recently my gas oven flame (in the actual oven) has started to come out of the side of the shield plate that covers the flame rather than just at the back of the sheild if that makes sense?

It’s causing a burnt metal/plastic smell when pre heating the oven. Once it’s pre heated and the flame lowers the smell goes. I have cleaned the oven even taken the sheild plate off to see if there’s an obstruction but I can’t see why this is suddenly happening!

Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

Please ensure you have a carbon monoxide detector near it - we had a very old gas cooker with an eye level grill which changed shape, and stopped burning efficiently (and started giving off carbon monoxide)
