Alternatives to the Owlet sock or how to get the fucker to work?

Trying to get the owlet baby monitoring sock to work, and it won’t connect to the internet. Have gone through all the help pages, seems it might not like new intent that runs at 5hz? How can you sell something for £300 that can’t cope with modern internet?
if we can’t get it to work with customer services tomorrow, are there any alternatives out there? Or just breathing monitors?

they connect fine it’s just confusing I remember ours was. Just email them .

BloodySock · 11/11/2024 10:52

They don’t connect fine if going by the reviews in the last week all asking if there’s an app error as no one can get them to work. Something this expensive should connect to the internet and not have to have you email or phone them and be user friendly for people who are sleep deprived with a newborn! We were genuinely surprised at having tech that seemed antiquated and wouldn’t connect to certain internet frequencies that we all use, wanted to disconnect the range extenders, and still wouldn’t work etc

No honestly it is just incredibly confusing took my dh about two hours! But it does connect I just can’t remember what the issue was I will ask him later and see if he remembers.

BloodySock · 14/11/2024 11:30

Thanks , we ended up removing the internet and range extenders and unpacking the store cupboard under the stairs. We think it might have connected but need a baby to try it on! Customer service just send me an email once a day saying they’ll reply when not busy!

I have an internet extender that runs at 2.4 GHz needed for connecting certain 'smart' items to WiFi. Might help to change one of the extenders bands to 2.4 GHz and see if that helps

alpinia · 14/11/2024 11:44

It's a complete pain in the arse to set up. It needed the 5gHz Internet switching off in favour of the 2.4gHz. Then the Dream app downloading instead of the Owlet Care app. And even then it was a pain to connect and we needed to go through some other browser based connection procedure.
It's now connected but the alarm goes off regularly saying there are connection issues making us panic.

I also have a Nanit for my other child and that connected with 0 issues and has worked happily for 2.5 years. No idea why Owlet is so rubbish.

BloodySock · 14/11/2024 18:13

It really is total rubbish that you can’t make something that connects to the internet most people use and app that works for that price and for sleep deprived new parents!

I don't remember having trouble setting up but my hubby did. I'd save your money and return it. It's not been useful for us at all. Totally overhyped

DragonFly98 · 14/11/2024 23:43

Dh said it’s something like connecting your phone to the sock first and then the sock to the internet rather than connecting the sock directly to the internet. So your phone creates its own WiFi connection.

Thunderlegs · 25/02/2025 21:05

OP did you have any joy? Trying to connect ours and ready to throw the blasted thing out the window.

SnakebitesandSambucas · 25/02/2025 21:33

What does the owlet do? I was wondering if buying a monitor would increase my panic. Or ease it.

BloodySock · 01/03/2025 16:18

@Thunderlegs nope. Bought a Snuza instead. Connects just via Bluetooth

I was given a trial of one of these when they were first launched - utterly useless. Got an Angelcare mat that goes under the mattress which was much better.

OverTheRaincloud · 01/03/2025 16:53

The Snuza Hero monitors are really good.
