Is there a phone alert for outdoor clothes drying weather?

Does this exist or does anyone techy know how to set it up? I want to be alerted on my phone if the weather predicts it will be a good day for hanging washing on the line outdoors. Does anyone have an app for this type of thing. I'm on android.
Thanks.

Accuweather is a very reliable weather app and website

What does the BBC weather app do?
I just want something to ping up on my phone at around 8.30am to say whether I should put a wash on or not. Basically my problem is that I often forget to do a wash and then by the time it's all piled up I look outside and it's raining. I want to be more organised.

8.30 is too late anyway, especially in winter, it would be nearly lunchtime before it's ready to hang out.

You just need to get into the habit of checking the weather forecast the night before then putting a load on then if it looks like good drying weather the next day. Set a daily alarm for 7 pm or other convenient time that says 'check weather, washing on'? and that's all you need surely.

I'd want to make my own decision as to whether I'd put the washing on - what sort of washing is it, am I going to be at home if the weather isn't as dry as the forecast etc? So an app would be useless as I'd still need to see the actual forecast the algorithm is based on.

I'm also trying to decide whether the OPs washing app is more or less unnecessary than the one I read about earlier that was for measuring suitcases. What's wrong with a tape measure?

Would only work if you live near the weather station prediction point and there's no microclimates at play (hills and water mess with the predictions here and we regularly are dry when 3 miles away is wet, the rain literally stops on the avonmouth bridge)

There’s an iPhone app called Hang The Washing?

abracadabra1980 · 10/11/2024 07:52

@notbeenagreatday 🤣 I have the same 'type' of mother, except she texts saying "Channel 5 Xxx NOW" like I don't have the same access to TV schedules as she does, and that everything can be 'caught up' and I only watch YouTube these days anyway.

Fizbosshoes · 10/11/2024 07:56

Why would the washing app be more accurate (or less likely to be wrong) than a weather forecast app? Surely both are based on having access to similar info/data?

Also I do washing at a similar frequency during a week. And it gets hung outside if conditions, and work timings are favourable and indoors if not (in the winter if it's dark when I go to work and dark when I return, the washing gets hung indoors regardless what the weather is like)

Thesilkinsideachesnutshell · 10/11/2024 07:59

I think a laundry app would use the same info as a weather app probably.

Don't know about a full-day laundry forecast - took Grandson fishing, forecast dry and overcast and we were pissed on from a great height within an hour. I do know that if the path/pavements are damp, then washing won't dry.

This - the weather app often says it's going to be dry all day, zero precipitation, but the air and ground are so damp, you can see it won't dry (I learned that tip about the paths here, in fact)... 🙂

FiveFoxes · 10/11/2024 08:05

Id like something that alters me it has started raining and I need to run and get the washing in.

I am very optimistic when I look at the sky/the forecast.

applepipshake · 10/11/2024 08:06

There is an app called laundry timer and that will give you guidance whether to hang stuff out and how long it will take to dry based on the current weather in your area

mumda · 10/11/2024 08:07

I've got 'rain today ' which tells you if it'll rain in the next half hour.
Useful for anyone with an outdoor hobby that needs it not to rain.

saveforthat · 10/11/2024 08:09

It never fails to amaze me how people expect an app for everything nowadays.

teacoffeeorpassthegin · 10/11/2024 08:09

It's not just about the rain though.

My mum always said if the ground starts drying up then things will dry. Often it stays so damp that the washing doesn't dry at all.

Thats because there is an app for everything now 😂

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 10/11/2024 08:10

My mum says if the ground is dry your washing will dry

Courgettesandonions · 10/11/2024 08:10

I've found this which I really like as it's nice and simple and clear.

I might set it as part of my homepage so I can see it when I log on in the morning.

Alexa, phone alarm and custom app thing are all good shouts. Maybe I just need a note somewhere in my kitchen to remind me to check. Not keen on a heated dryer as I don't have space for it.

Laundry timer. I got it after it was recommended on here.
It breaks it down to light, medium and heavy fabrics
Today showing me light fabrics will take 9 hours so I'm not going to bother

Thank you. I've downloaded that one now too and just getting used to it. I like the netweather link above as it's really basic and simple and I don't have to do any calculations in my head.

You don't seem to need something to tell you about the weather. You need a reminder to do laundry. So put a daily reminder in your phone to check the weather and put a wash in.

Redwinedaze · 10/11/2024 08:15

Are we not in danger of dumbing down society ? Its starting to get embarrassing how much people rely on being told what to do instead of using their own brain and common sense.

Nannyfannybanny · 10/11/2024 08:17

I usually watch the local weather forecast after the local news. That tells me one thing, AccuWeather, something else,BBC weather different again, we have solar another app on that, plus a local weather app, which you can in theory have an hourly forecast, how often are they accurate, frankly, rarely! If it's not windy, I won't bother putting it out.

MumblesParty · 10/11/2024 08:24

Get the BBC weather app on your phone. Set a timer at 8.30am to remind you to check the weather. If it looks good, put the washing on.

Simplelobsterhat · 10/11/2024 08:30

Nice idea OP. Although I'd need it the night before because I haven't got time to put the wash on and peg it out before work, so I'd want to do the wash overnight and then get it out in the morning (generally too early to just look out of the window or know whether the paving stones are going to dry from early morning dew yet).
So something that takes I to account wind and humidity not just 'is it likely to rain' would be useful at this time of year when not every dry day is necessarily a great drying day.

And yes if course plenty of people wouldn't feel the need, and people have managed without for centuries, but doesn't that go for most inventions and basically all apps?

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 10/11/2024 08:36

OP i'm the same as you, i can look at the weather forecast but that doesn't tell me whether i can dry laundry as I don't know which conditions are best for laundry drying beyond is it raining/sunny. So something specific that says whether laundry will dry is really useful

Nacknick · 10/11/2024 08:41

PP are missing the point, which is that you want an app to push a notification to you rather than you having to check for yourself. I agree i5 would be useful.
