What everyday jobs do you hate ?

Rainbow321 · 09/11/2024 13:13

So as title , the little jobs, that need doing most days , or as least often do you find a drudge to do ?
For me , and I'm sure I will be agreeing to some on here , the ones I most dislike that spring to mind are ,

Peeling potatoes .

Wiping off the shower cubicle after showering
( never know to do it whilst I'm still wet , or to dry off first and then go back in )

Washing out bins

Dusting / cleaning skirting boards

Changing beds

What's yours ?

All domestic chores whatsoever, apart from washing up
Showering
Clearing cat shit from the garden
I also loathe peeling veg

Lunaballoon · 09/11/2024 13:45

Washing out bins and dusting skirting boards on a daily/frequent basis? That’s where you’re going wrong!
For me it’s emptying the dishwasher and keeping on top of bathroom cleaning.

Just what I was going to say. I don't wash bins out more than about once a month and I don't clean the skirting boards or wash the bedding daily either.

buffyspikefaith · 09/11/2024 13:51

Peeling potatoes
Definitely cleaning bins!
Hoovering especially under the bed

T4phage · 09/11/2024 13:59

Cooking is my main one. I hate it with a passion. The children have left home (one at uni), so I'm not doing it anymore. I just have nibbly bits, omelet or fruit and nuts or dh prepares something if he's in the mood.

The only other one is the shower cubicle. I don't know why I hate doing it. It might be because I can only give it a good scrub whilst I'm actually showering and then I end up too hot and bothered for when I get out of the shower.

Shower I don't mind

I spray it after ever use with method shower spray, and in the shower I keep one of those washing up sponge brushes filled with washing up liquid and use that to clean it! Keeps it mostly clean

Betty91 · 09/11/2024 14:02

I think I hate them all. The only thing I like about doing any of these things is that they are then done. There's no enjoyment in them - I'm not a Mrs Hinch.

Isitfridayyetsophie · 09/11/2024 14:06

Most of them really, but my worst ones:

-cleaning the frother wand thing on the coffee machine
-cleaning the sink
-putting the toys away and cleaning the bath after bath time
-hanging the clean washing to dry
-putting away clean clothes

I just really hate having to deal with the washing, quite happy to put the wash on though!

Cosycover · 09/11/2024 14:09

Every single one of them.

Anicecumberlandsausage · 09/11/2024 14:13

The council have given residents a caddy to put their food waste in but by the time it gets full it's stinks and there's "bin juice" at the bottom 🤢. Truly grim to wash out after I've thrown the contents out. I have bought compostable bags off the internet to help reduce the burden of this gross task.

I also hate cleaning out rhe cat litter tray and fishing out hair from the plughole in the shower. 🤢🤢

OohShakiraShakira · 09/11/2024 14:16

Planning and deciding what to eat. I don't really mind the cooking, or even the cleaning up after. I just get so bored of thinking up dinner ideas that everyone likes.

Also, just picking up stuff if I drop it. You know how everyone says "tidy as you go" but if i open a packet and corner of the plastic falls on the floor or one of the kids drops their school bag in the middle of the hall or im carrying laundry and drop a sock, I just look down at it and think "I don't have the energy to deal with you right now". This then snowballs and my house looks like a hovel everyday by 4pm and I then spend a solid hour tidying instead of doing it as I go like every sensible person says has warned me to. I'm my own worst enemy.

Agree @OohShakiraShakira though I don’t like the cooking either, but thinking of the food is so boring. I would be happy with a sandwich and crisps for dinner every night 🤣 It does mean if I’m staying with family or friends and they ask what we want to do for food, I’ll always give a suggestion, hard enough when you’re hosting to think of meals your guests like too!

wavingfuriously · 09/11/2024 14:26

I never clean skirting boards. Dust piles up everywhere until I can be bothered to clean it.

Hate cleaning!!

Sandsnake · 09/11/2024 14:28

Putting my clothes away, either ones I have been wearing or ones from the wash. I am a relatively productive and competent person, but I just hate putting my bloody clothes away.

hopeishere · 09/11/2024 14:29

Peeling potatoes. So fiddly.

Putting clean laundry away.

Notellinganyone · 09/11/2024 14:30

Changing a king size duvet cover gives me existential despair- every time. I always strip off the bedding- then forget and have to do it when I’m knackered and want to go to bed. Love clean bedding though!

IceSkates · 09/11/2024 14:31

Washing up and drying pots
I do it multiple times a day & it’s so boring, but I don’t like pots lying around.

I love cooking, but again, it’s all the pots, knives, chopping boards etc that need washing afterwards.
(We don’t have a dishwasher, no room for one)

Oh, changing the sheets on the super king sized bed. Only do it once a week, but it’s a real workout.

I enjoy hoovering though and putting laundry away. Very satisfying!

JustinThyme · 09/11/2024 14:32

Cleaning in general but especially brushing the kitchen floor.

It’s a large multi-use room with lots of furniture and it’s a pain in the arse to sweep. I loathe doing it.

I don’t mind food planning, shopping, cooking, pegging out washing, that sort of thing. But cleaning is awful.

DoIHaveToRepeatMyself · 09/11/2024 14:32

Almost all of them. I particularly dislike -

Ironing
Folding washing and putting it away

I DO like -
Peeling potatoes, chopping vegetables, changing the bed, vacuuming.

Doesn't the council give you the bags to line the caddy? My council does. Sometimes using just once bag it can still leak, I put a piece of kitchen roll in the bottom then 2 compostable bags, seems to stop the leaking.

spoonfulofsugar1 · 09/11/2024 14:33

Ironing. I despise it. That's probably why i only do my kids uniform and my work shirts and the rest of the time we look crumpled.
Less regular job but when I'm spring cleaning i strip the covers off the settee and wash them and i hate it.

motherofbees · 09/11/2024 14:34

I love peeling things I've spent all morning peeling stored potatoes that were a bit damaged I. Storage for freezer mash and wedges. I also absolutely love ironing
Don't like food shopping
Really don't like hoovering I'm thinking seriously about one of those automatic ones but the choice is overwhelming lol

No they don't supply the liners! ! I'm careful not to overfill the bags which helps.

Chelsea26 · 09/11/2024 14:37

Pretty much everything but especially anything to do with floors - sweeping hoovering & mopping. I’ve just bought a hoover/mop thing that apparently does both at the same time. I’m hoping it works as I think if I only have to do it once I might do it more often and be less of a slattern!

IAmNeverThePerson · 09/11/2024 14:39

Changing bedding.

putting clothes away
ironing
don’t mind the rest
