Sons dark under eye circles

My DS is 14 and for the last 4 years or so maybe longer, maybe shorter I can't quite remember the first time I started noticing them.
He has quite severe dark under eye circles

He gets enough sleep he's in bed by 10pm and up at 7am for school.
His dad has under eye bags not so much dark circles so ive just been thinking that they're caused by genetics possibly?
He doesn't drink water never has but he drinks diluting juice im always on his case to drink more incase they're caused by dehydration.
His diet is ok ish for a 14 year old boy. Him and his friends like to hang out at McDonalds or he'll go to Greggs so its not amazingly healthy but his dinners at home are healthy enough I try to limit junk.

Ive never taken him to the doctors about it to see if he's maybe deficient in something because that would mean pointing them out to my him and I don't want to make him self conscious of them.
Ive never once mentioned them to him and he's never spoken to me about them so they clearly don't bother him and as far as I know none of his friends have said anything about them to him.

They're so bad im scared its only a matter of time before they start bothering him and he's such a happy, easygoing teen id hate for him to have any hang ups over his appearance.

Does anyone have any ideas please?

Have a look at allergy shiners.

Low iron can cause dark circles under the eyes.
