Why do you have this muscle spasm? Have you injured your back?

They are awful and, after a back injury, can be terrible as you recuperate. I had a small heated pad about 10 inches by 12 that I would lie flat on that really eased it. John Lewis sell them.

My fruend has valium and whiskey that he swears by 🙂

Are you sure it is just a muscle spasm and not something else?

Cerialkiller · 09/11/2024 08:11

I don't know it's the same but when I twisted my spine and had back spasms I just took staggered doses of paracetamol and ibuprofen. Paracetamol is an antispasmodic. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory. I would take the paracetamol as part of codeine for pain.

Other then that, heat, cold, rest. Gentle exercise and get yourself to a physio.

I don't know how. It hurt at certain movement doc saw me yesterday it's all around cure core

Go back to the Dr and discuss what you can take together with the Diazepam. (not Whisky Diazepam is Valium and does not mix with alcohol) Or talk to the pharmacist who dispensed it.

It may be that you can layer in otc painkillers - I don’t know, but the dr should.

BringMeTea · 09/11/2024 08:23

Doctor again. When i had this the doctor injected me with liquid diazepam then prescribed 10mg a day for a week. It really grinds my gears many doctors' under prescribing this drug when it is really needed and will help the patient. 💐

GetDownkeith · 09/11/2024 08:30

Dihydrocodeine with diazepam. Go back to the dr. I have back problems and when mine goes into spasm this is what they give me. Dh laughs at me because I am totally out of it but it is the only thing that can get me to the toilet when it’s like that.
I described it once as I can still tell I’m in pain but I just don’t care.

Musclespssm · 09/11/2024 08:42

@BringMeTea @GetDownkeith

Thanks.
It feels like my core, corset muscles. The last time this happened was when I bent forward and picked up something. That was years ago. I don't know what's triggered this.

Unfortunately I think sleeping and lying down makes it worse but moving around is also hard.

How soon does it go with the meds you take

@GetDownkeith what level diaziozm

OP posts:
Musclespssm · 09/11/2024 08:43

@BringMeTea I've got 3 x 2mg doses per day

OP posts:
BringMeTea · 09/11/2024 11:35

You need a higher dose. Mine was same location you're describing. I couldn't use bathroom as couldn't move either side. So painful. I had a bad back then i lifted something too heavy for me and back just seized. Doc said it was body's way of protecting the already 'bad' bit. The dose you have been given wouldn't have touched the sides no pun intended. It was hellish and you have my full sympathy. I was able to move mere hours after the diazepam injection. Also took painkillers but it was the diazepam that meant the painkillers could actually do their job a bit. 💐

Musclespssm · 09/11/2024 16:12

@BringMeTea thank you.
It's awful isn't it.

@GetDownkeith what level diaziozm

5-10mg sometimes 5 is enough particularly with the dihydrocodeine.
2mg is an anxiety level dose not a dose for muscle spasms.

BringMeTea · 11/11/2024 20:46

@Musclespssm how are you getting on?

Musclespssm · 11/11/2024 20:50

@BringMeTea thank you for asking!

Im moving with caution but I can move.
I'm released from the pain but it was scary and horrific.
Trying to sleep, I couldn't lie on my back struggled to get from side to side, couldn't sit on loo properly.

I've gone back to docs and got more diazpipan lined up one worry was having so few tablets and so weak.

BringMeTea · 11/11/2024 21:09

Oh I am glad you have more drugs and seeing some improvement. Take care. 💐

rainydogday · 11/11/2024 21:13

I had this a few times. One journey in an ambulance on gas and air. Was worse than labour! The spasms were only stopped by diazepam. Had to take until all relaxed and gone. Then paracetamol and ibuprofen for the painful muscles after. Now I am very careful and I do have an emergency few tablets of diazepam in case it happens again. Lots of physio but basically weak upper back:

Musclespssm · 11/11/2024 21:18

@rainydogday that's interesting re ambulance because I wondered what I would do had dh not been able to get me.

So ambulances would come for it? What level of diazpipan for you?. I don't know what triggered this so that's a concern, I did have a fall a week before where I really jolted my back but had no effects after?

I wholeheartedly agree with you. My GP has allowed me to have it when required for decades. 5mg. Sometimes I need it for 3 days after a spasm, then not again for months. My back pain is chronic and can't be cured. If I didn't have this medication to hand, when my back spasms, I'd be unable to stand up, or every half way up. I h e to crawl on all fours. Also take Tramadol (daytime) when this happens or Codeine 30mg (night time as makes me sleepy), and I've had a reasonably good quality of life on this combination. Oh and also Pilates-with a PT/Osteopath instructor. Pilates and stretching is an absolute necessity for pain with back spasms, but only when you are out of the spasm.

Musclespssm · 11/11/2024 21:23

@abracadabra1980 thanks, I've actually done pilates up until recently but my upper back is weak.

I wouldn't have been able too crawl with mine it was all around middle and back.

Glad you have found a good combo of drugs

Edited

I had an ambulance for this. They told me that in a fire, I would have been unable to move, so it is considered a legitimate call out. Mine relaxed with gas and air. Once it had settled, I had lots of physio and now I do Pilates to strengthen my core.

Last time I had a spasm, I was able to keep going and it went within a week. Pilates is a must for back health. I hope you feel better soon.

Musclespssm · 11/11/2024 21:37

@unsync that's really reassuring to know because I was thinking what happens if I'm on the tube, train, bus etc, getting petrol!

I'm going to keep diazipam on me.

I couldn't bend down so I had to get help to access my phone.
