So we spent a lot of money that ended up we me sleeping in the spare bed for a lot of years due to my back

We are getting a new bed and want a decent mattress?

I do not want at memory or latex or foam mattress.

We are getting a super king so need to be certain this so what we want as they are expensive or with a return policy.

Or could we get two singles for the super king?

We want a firm or medium firm bed.

You could try Dreams.

boobybum · 08/11/2024 14:18

We’ve got the Silentnight comfort pocket essentials in a super king and I’m very happy with it. It’s a medium/firm mattress. There’s 15% off with the code VCODE15SN at the moment on the their website.

They have a bed with sensors and questions thing in Dreams that supposedly helps you choose the perfect mattress for you.
We went through a fair few mattresses before I realised that one of the main considerations is how much you weigh. My DH is 15st I am 9st.we had been getting firm mattresses to suit him, which I found initially OK, but then started getting achy. Now we have 2 singles on a super king frame. Perfect. His firm, mine soft.

If you have a bad back then strongly recommend a Tempur. Why are you ruling that out?

helpmyback · 08/11/2024 16:45

We currently have a latex type memory foam and that is too soft and hurts my back so loathed to have a tempur

My kids have gel tops. I have a king sized firm. Gel tops are supposed to be soft, but they turned out to be a great one. Hubby has a green velvet been converted on four screw in legs. He loves it.

WildWildWestCoast · 08/11/2024 17:25

I really rate my Silentnight Ecocomfort mattress. It's a medium because our previous firm mattress made me ache (especially my hips, as a side sleeper).

AlexaSetATimer · 08/11/2024 19:38

We have a Hypnos one, love it.

helpmyback · 08/11/2024 20:22

We went to the bed shop but DP wouldn't try the mattress as the weren't clean enough.

Then you have a DP problem. Is he normally this weird about stuff?

We found the sensor thing in Dreams very helpful.

Then you get to test the mattress and choose by yourself if he’s going to be that ridiculous. Surely he sits on seats on public transport that are a lot worse!

Tempur is very firm.

Joyee · 08/11/2024 20:30

DH could try babywiping his bottom after he gets up.

helpmyback · 08/11/2024 20:33

yes DH is a massive PITA

he is a germophobe when it is convenient to him.

We went to Dreams recently and lay on the bed thing. We were then given a list of about 5 mattresses to try. We ended up with the Tempur Medium/Firm and it’s great for my bad back. We had bought a pocket sprung John Lewis mattress only 6 years ago but that has always aggravated my back.

Plastictrees · 08/11/2024 23:55

I’d really recommend the Simba Hybrid Pro super king mattress.

helpmyback · 09/11/2024 19:54

Right. Me and princess DH went to the bed shop and tried the sensor bed and tried about 6 mattresses he recommend and came out the one we liked was £1249 this was not the most expensive or the cheapest but top ish end

And the man was super helpful and just a nice guy. I hate grumpy sales people. we have a guarantee for an exchange minus 10% in 6 weeks if we don't like it. Which seems reasonable.

£1249 though (superking )is this reasonable or not?

Thanks all for help I appreciate all the comments and it has helped me .
