What temperature is your house? (No DCs)

Sia8899 · 08/11/2024 13:47

If you have no DCs that you need to keep warm, what is your winter “base” temperature during the day and what temperature do you heat to when at home/in the evening?

For the last two winters what used to be my “base” temperature is now the temperature I heat to but my house is suffering! And I have no idea any more what’s normal as I’ve got used to living at a lower temperature

Right now its 18c for 2 hours in the evening. The heating is off the rest of the time. When the outside temperature gets freezing I'll likely have it on in the morning too and even a few hours daytime when I'm at home. But never more than 18c. I live in a new build style property so good insulation and retains heat quite well.

I'm in England, the midlands area. Forecast says it's 9c outside at the moment. I run hot so like my house chilly... It also stops visitors hanging around too long.. ha. 🤪

Brrrrrrrrr! I always thought England was warmer but it's 10° outside where I am. Oooh yeah, you won't have visitors hanging around at 12 degrees😂

Fireworknight · 08/11/2024 14:44

Dh and (adult) dc wfh . Thermostat set at 20. Too warm for me. Dc still says it’s too cold.

IfYouLook · 08/11/2024 14:46

Any room Im In for any period I like to keep it at 21-23. Bedroom at night min of 17.

I was always cold as a child and really can’t bare to be so now. I do wear lots of layers too. I know I’m lucky to be able to do this. My house is a new build / triple glazed with UFH so it’s not extortionate to keep it this warm.

TheFormidableMrsC · 08/11/2024 14:46

At the moment it's 16. I really can't afford to have the heating on.

lifebyfaith · 08/11/2024 14:47

19 or 20.

I used to have it at 18 but i just felt too cold. The washing struggled to dry too

didistutter56 · 08/11/2024 14:48

We’re quite “naturally warm” people, so it’s only ever set to come on first thing in the morning and in the evening, set to 18. It’ll get bumped up to 20 when it’s freezing outside.

Nothatgingerpirate · 08/11/2024 14:48

20 C roughly.
My husband is 75.

ChiefEverythingOfficer · 08/11/2024 14:49

I live on the East Coast of Australia (subtropical).

We were amused by the fact that we cool our house to 26c in the summer. I bloody hate it but we can't go much colder or everything condenses and we get mould.

I long for a cooler climate.

Sparklefroggle · 08/11/2024 14:51

Currently 14.5 in here. Other than testing it works once a month, the heating hasn’t been on since early this year. If it drops below 12 during the day and 8 overnight it will automatically come on.

We use a dehumidifier to keep on top of damp/for drying clothes and wear warm clothes indoors. House was kept warmer when children were small.

Werp · 08/11/2024 14:51

Thermometer says 15 at the moment and i’m warm enough working from home with layers and wrist warmers. Running the dehumidifier is much cheaper than having the heating on, so have that pretty much constantly running and do blasts of heating as needed.

OldieButBaddie · 08/11/2024 14:57

My house is currently 21.5 and I have no heating on!

Anisty · 08/11/2024 15:06

Ok sitting here on MN i am frozen. 16.5 and heating just gone on

Sia8899 · 08/11/2024 15:11

My house is currently 21.5 and I have no heating on!

Surely not in the UK!

buffyspikefaith · 08/11/2024 15:12

Around 17c ish
18c if I'm really cold or a heated blanket
Not heated overnight

Delatron · 08/11/2024 15:15

I like it to be at least 18 in the room I’m in. Have Hive so I’ve just looked and currently the coldest room is at 15 degrees- nobody in that room.

I’m happiest at 20 degrees if it’s cold outside. But heating is off overnight and I sleep with the window open

BlueEyedLeucy · 08/11/2024 15:18

18 degrees for us. If we have visitors we turn it up a bit but 18 is fine. It gets a bit cool in the evening but I have a heated throw which works wonders and is much cheaper than heating the whole house.

Georgyporky · 08/11/2024 15:19

22, heating on 06.30 to 22.00 all year round. I rely on thermostat to control it.

I turn it down to18 when away - it feels very cold when I return.

unsync · 08/11/2024 15:20

Boiler comes on at 7.30 and goes off at 22.00. Rad thermostats are 2 in common areas and 3 in sitting room. It's generally around 20-22° but I live with nonagenarian parent, so needs must. Heating fuel is our major expenditure, we use about 1000 litres every 5-6 weeks. No gas where we are.

CarolinaInTheMorning · 08/11/2024 15:24

I live in the US in a humid climate. We have central air and heat. In the warmer months we keep the thermostat at 74 F and in the winter when the heat is on, we keep it at 72 F. There are a few months of the year when we don't need either for comfort, but we sometimes run it even then to keep humidity down.

But it's all electric, and electricity is pretty cheap where we live.

Octavia64 · 08/11/2024 15:26

Twenty.

I'm disabled and have problems with cold.

user2848502016 · 08/11/2024 15:28

Heating is on to keep it between 18-20, it rarely gets above 22 unless it's a proper heatwave, the heating is off overnight but rarely seen it below 15 and that was when it was snowing

Kbroughton · 08/11/2024 15:46

17 and then up to 20 on an evening if needed. My best purchase last yeat was a heated blanket. Not an under blanket one, a soft fleecy one that plugs in. I put it over my knees when WFH and havent had to have the heating on at more than 17 during the day since then. It even goes in the washing machine. Cannot recommend highly enough!

OldieButBaddie · 08/11/2024 15:52

Sia8899 · 08/11/2024 15:11

Surely not in the UK!

Yep, in London!
I do have very good insulation but I had no idea it had got so cold outside, so it's clearly better than I thought!

LoremIpsumCici · 08/11/2024 15:57

TTPDTS · 08/11/2024 14:18

About 22* 😂

Me too! I am on team warm at least while my sister from California is staying…
