Gymnastics- too much?

DD 6yo has been going to a gymnastics class for a few weeks. One of the teachers took me aside and said that they are really impressed with her and offered a 2 hour training session instead of the one hour training she does currently.

DD is desperate to do it. She had been begging me to take her to a gymnastics class for ages before she started. I’m not sure if 2 hours is a bit much for a 6yo on a school night and if the 2 hours really is based on her skill level or if they are just keen to make more money.

any similar experience?

The fact she wants to do it is great. But always give her the option to stop if she doesn’t want to do it anymore.

It depends a little on what sort of club/class. If it is one with a reputation which has gymnasts compete at a regional/national level it means they think she has potential to progress.

I don't think my six year old would manage two hours on a school night, and having been a gymnastics fan for years I appreciate the huge time and financial commitment gymnastics takes. However, she's very early days and if she is enjoying it and you think she'll cope - go for it!

Sounds like it’s a trial for a squad. If she enjoys it I’d go for it!
They may also train at the weekend

Yes absolutely. She has quite a few hobbies that she enjoys and wants to continue but she’s never been quite as passionate about them as she is about gymnastics

Lots of 6 year olds do 2 hours of sport especially if they're capable. At 7 mine was doing about 4 hours a week of gymnastics. In her dance studio the 4-6 year olds all do about 2 hours 4 nights a week.
IMO it isn't too much. Let her try it and if it doesn't work then go back to 1 hour.
