My sodding back!

Drove to college this morning. Parked up, colleague approached me as I opened the door, went to get out of car and...... rippppppp. Back has gone.
No lifting. Felt a twinge as I changed gear a couple of times.
Now in bed having taken some codeine, paracetamol and ibuprofen.

Next working on Wednesday and I am being IQA'd so need to be match fit. I teach a very practical subject so can't sit behind a desk.
Not had this happen for a year - was doing so well. All on top of my Rheumatoid Arthritis which is in remission at the moment!

Feeling sorry for myself

Don't really know

My sodding back!

Ah.. I can relate. Tweaked my back some time over the weekend and now on day 4 of being propped up in bed. Only place I can get comfortable. Solphadeine Max seems to be helping. I have managed to find a chiropractor locally and have an appointment this afternoon.

Ouch. This happened to me once. I was walking like Quasimodo and John Wayne’s love child. Physio helped. Best thing is to keep moving. Being in bed is the worse thing you can do.

Lifeglowup · 07/11/2024 10:13

Just remembered my GP prescribed Diazepam which helped.

Thank you!

Chiropractors can't touch me - I have lots of metal in my spine.

I am now off my tits.... pain is still there but I now don't care.

DH is on nights so he says he will leave me a sandwich and a flask by the bed for my tea...

I agree being in bed is not good - but I can't physically sit up. I can't roll over either!

What a shit show!

Try and get an emergency GP appointment. See if they can give anything to help.

I am recovering from horrid back thing, I spent six weeks in bed!
I had been trying to walk each day, get moving, doing some stretches etc. all of which were apparently the wrong thing to do and caused absolute agony such that I had to go to hospital.
get moving is good advice for a slipped disc I think but not necessarily for every back condition. I had to basically lie still until it had shifted. So might be worth trying that if movement is not helpful.

You are spot on. For disc I think the adage is ‘motion is lotion’ but mine is so painful when I try and move it reduces me to tears.. feels like the wrong thing to do. Propped up and resting seems to be the best thing for it. At least at the moment. I’m hoping I can get some good drugs that will make movement easier.

Diazepam and Voltarol used to be my magic combo but now you need a prescription for Voltarol (used to be OTC but not since 2015) and widely Gp’s don’t seem to want to prescribe diazepam anymore.

Back update.

Still in pain. I can sit up/ stand up now though and I can turn over in bed ( still painful)
Worked yesterday ( I am a lecturer) and I need to go straight to bed when I got home with codeine.
No work until next Thursday so hopefully I will be much better.

Bloody bloody back

Op is it actual bone issues or a muscle spasm?

CosyFanTucci · 14/11/2024 18:55

I’ve had back trouble all my life and, after a good spell for a few years, it went again last week (lifting in this instance but has happened unloading the dishwasher in the past, or just twisting). Anyway, turns out my doctor no longer prescribes diazepam so I’m on my own. For me, keeping it mobile is key - going for walks (shuffles) mainly. Sitting (and getting up) is impossible. Warmth helps. But do try to keep moving.

It's muscle.
All linked to being an ex RGN (trained in the 1980s) - we used to lift patients ( the dreaded Australian lifts)

Ok it sounded like a disc issue.
Diazipam is the key as you know.
How' many times have you had it
