Evening
I hope someone can offer some advice ref my situation.

My employer provides a company car as we have to travel around the uk.

My contract states that the company will provide a company car during employment to assist in the performance of duties.

They have sent an email today saying that anything under a certain threshold of business miles will not be getting a car.

We will be getting a commensurate salary increase instead. I am not even sure what that is?

Is this allowed? My contract doesn't say anything about miles etc
Just that they will provide a car.

If this is legal for them to do, is it likely I will be able to negotiate the salary increase?

I'd just like to understand what my rights are if anyone can help.

I’d respond and ask for clarity on if your contract will need to be updated and also understand what vehicle you are permitted to drive/ use now one isn’t being provided

Are you sure you aren’t being given a car allowance instead of a company car? So in effect there are still paying for/ towards the vehicle

I'd read that as car allowance rather than car itself. Which is often better - as you can get a cheaper car than the allowance given and use the rest of the money as a salary top up

You might need to change your insurance too.

The contract says will provide. Can I refuse?

Sorry will provide a vehicle. I am going to be worse off after insurance etc as I will have no clilaims as it's been a company car for 10 years

You can actually use that for NCD with your own car, I did many years ago when I left my employer and got my first car in some years. I got a letter from HR

They can’t change your contract unilaterally.
