War with Russia

I read an article by a journalist called Edward Lucas. It suggests that full war with Russia is closer than we imagine, that the US won't come too our aid, and that our military is in no state to fight a war and even our nuclear subs aren't up to much.

I can't link as it's behind a pay wall, but this is really frightening. Has anyone else read it? Is he right?

Dunno, but one note that rings potentially true as you've described the article is that the US will likely attempt to withdraw from NATO if the Republicans win tomorrow. I say "attempt" because of course it is not only up to a sitting President, but would also require approval of a two-third Senate super-majority or an Act of Congress to withdraw the USA form NATO. As things stand now, of course the US would come to the aid of the UK or any NATO country.

Very true. £2.26bn pledged to Ukraine for weapons. That is certainly putting it up to Russia.
