Those who work at BAE systems..

DS has decided he wants to pursue a career at BAE systems.

He understands it is very competitive to secure a position/apprenticeship but it is something he has shown a lot of interest in.

Could anyone give their experience working here and would you have any tips on what they look for in people, as employers?

What type of things would make a candidate stand out from the rest?

If it helps, I think it is more the business side of things he is interested in

Thanks!

I have no experience of BAe directly, but in the absence of anyone else responding I would suggest making sure he attends some of the events that BAe attend as outreach and making sure to spend some time talking to the people on the stand - https://www.baesystems.com/en/digital/careers/our-people/graduates-and-students/education-outreach

Plus applying for the experience/taster offerings - https://www.baesystems.com/en/careers/careers-in-the-uk/getting-ready-for-work

And contacting them directly with an enquiry (email address in the first link).

He should be able to articulate why he wants to work for BAe and have a good idea of the breadth and depth of the business. And an idea of why he is interested in a career in the business side of the operation.

He needs to research their website and other media to understand what they're looking for in candidates and making sure that when it's time to apply his application/CV covers all the essential requirements and as many of the nice-to-haves as possible. Always remember that the first person that looks at an application/CV is looking to reject as many as possible as fast as possible to get down to a manageable shortlist, so it is vital that all the essential requirements can be clearly identified to a reader.
